MAKING HAVEN kicks off Toby Wise brand new zombie post apocalypse series. Have you ever wanted to read a zombie apocalypse romance without all the extra horror and blood? Well then, this will be the perfect read for you!
From the blurb:
In the three years since the world changed forever and zombies spread like wildfire, Devin has done everything in his power to keep his head down and survive. When he breaks his ankle during an altercation with a zombie, he assumes his days are over. Instead, he meets a vampire named Lawrence.
Lawrence goes through the motions of keeping his homestead intact. When he’s not thinking about how he’ll get his next bloody meal, he thinks about the future, hoping someday he won’t be alone. He dreams of warmth, acceptance, and the houses in his neighborhood filled with people again. Instead, he meets Devin.
The two can’t seem to see eye to eye and constantly butt heads, but once they start working together at making their little homestead into a safe haven, they realize there’s more to life than surviving, even during the zombie apocalypse.
Making Haven is book one in the Haven Series. Inside this supernatural world you’ll find a zombie apocalypse, a vampire who’s trying to make a home, a grumpy human just trying to survive, hurt/comfort, learning to work together, finding ways to live rather than just survive, and of course a Toby Approved happily ever after.
Molly Otto's review:
Ok seriously how did Toby make a sweet zombie apocalypse romance? No seriously though. Devin has been on his own in this new world and grown bitter from being burned one to many times. Lawrence, despite being alone, wants to have connections, so when he saves Devin he isn't prepared for his snark. With time and slowly built trust these two learn what it is to survive together and start building a hopeful future in this not so hopeful time. The banter is top notch and just fits these two perfectly showing how this world affects people differently. The passion when they allow each other in is on par with what I have come to know and love from a Toby story.
This is just the beginning of this new series from Toby with werewolves, vampires & zombies who knows what is next on the horizon. I cannot wait to see who next finds their new home in Haven.
Angel's review:
I've said this before and I'll say it again, Toby knows how to create such adorably sweet stories. Even though this is a tad darker than their usual books, it's still quintessentially Toby. Devin and Lawrence are so different from one another, yet compliment each other so beautifully.
Even though Devin is the grumpy to Lawrence's sunshine, seeing these two men finally accept each other is so sweet! I liked how Toby took the zombie apocalypse idea, and made it their own by making it paranormal. There's not just zombies and humans in this book, there are vampires, werewolves, zombie werewolves and despicable humans who are almost worse than the zombies.
I thought the scene where Lawrence was tending to his chickens was adorable! Who would've thought a vampire would have not only chickens during an apocalypse but also a garden AND a whole cul-de-sac?
All in all, this is a great short story and I'm looking forward to seeing more come from this world.
