Can a destroyed mate bond be pieced back together? Xeni is sent to find Bash, but Bash needs to know the truth behind Xeni's actions before he can forgive and trust his beautiful mate again.
From the blurb:
At Ljómur, surrounded by mates, we saw firsthand how fate could rewrite lives in an instant. We never thought it would claim us too.
Everything was perfect. Bash was my peace, my home, and the one person who saw through every layer I hid behind. Until the day I shattered it all. Four years ago, I sent him away without explanation and forced him to believe our love had been a lie.
Now our group needs Bash’s brilliant mind, and since the military believes I’m dead... I'm the perfect ghost to retrieve him.
When I agree to find him, I brace for hatred, rejection, protest, and tears. But all my practiced detachment and unbothered smiles don't prepare me for facing him again.
The Fates have dragged us back together, tearing open old wounds in a world on the brink of fallout. With the scars I bear and the secrets I keep, is it too late to reclaim what we lost? Or can a broken mate find his way back to the only heart that ever made him whole?
SNik's review:
Fourth in series (Mates Mark), must be read in order due to an overarching plotline. Paranormal dystopian. Fated mates. Second chance. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Xeni is on a mission to find his discarded mate, the scientist the group of hidden mates need to help decipher the mate prophecy and portals. Going to the city and wearing his military uniform is dangerous, but finally reuniting with Bash is worth the risk.
This story is a roller coaster as we learn about Xeni’s past, his upbringing, his military service, and the way he pushed Bash away. Xeni’s story is heartbreaking and his desperation to have Bash back in his life was hard to read. And Bash’s anger is justified and he tries to hold on to the hurt, but the truth and his abiding love for Xeni doesn’t allow them to stay broken for long, although the trust is hard. Every time Bash and Xeni were on page together was emotional, and eventually super steamy. I enjoyed the new group of found family, the danger, the sacrifice and the never forgotten love (the flashbacks were everything). Another superb entry into this series, this monster/human mate storyline is so engaging and I can’t wait for the plot to continue.
