A Captivating “Enemies to Lovers” Story
From the blurb:
Colonel Blackwell is begrudgingly in charge of an Outpost that's been forgotten and nearly abandoned by the military leaders, a promotion that's a punishment. When an enemy Soldier is brought to him he knows what he should do, but this man is the only witness to an event from his past. One that started his slow spiral and got him there in the first place. Determined to get answers, they begin the process of testing each other and their commitment to Duty.
Slowly, the mysteries will unravel, secrets will be spilt and lines will be crossed.
Where does cooperation become a friendship? Where does the truth blur into madness?
When does a man become a monster, and if one of them can be loved and forgiven, can the other seek it too?
Lesetiger's review:
“Black Grey White” is my first book by D.A.C.; the blurb piqued my curiosity because I like stories with a military backdrop.
The writing style is wonderful and light and easy to read, so I quickly got into the story.
It was a bit different than I expected, but I found the story very captivating. Colonel Blackwell is in charge of the outpost, and when a prisoner is brought before him, he treats him very differently than he should. His backstory is tragic, and I loved how the author revealed it bit by bit, so that the reader only finds out at the end what led Colonel Blackwell to end up at this outpost—that was absolutely brilliant, and by the end, I saw Colonel Blackwell in a whole new light. And then there’s the prisoner, Ben, who gradually opens up, and I kept wondering the whole time who Ben really is.
The story is very entertaining. There are several secrets to unravel, and the action scenes provide just as much suspense as the slowly developing friendship between Colonel Blackwell and Ben. The relationship between Colonel Blackwell and Ben is absolutely electrifying, and the way it develops is masterfully written. The big plus: the very well-developed characters, as well as the unfiltered, emotional scenes that really touched me.
If you like the “enemies-to-lovers” trope, this comes highly recommended! Get ready for an emotional roller coaster ride.
And once I finished the audiobook, I found myself wondering: How long until the next volume comes out? I want to hear more from Colonel Blackwell!
The audiobook was narrated by Tyler Laux and Jo Ryder, and I have to say, Tyler Laux did an outstanding job. He has a talent for conveying emotions perfectly, and I was fascinated by how he brought the various characters to life. It was an absolute pleasure to listen to this audiobook.
