White Noise (Caffeine Daydreams Book 1) by Lark Taylor

White Noise is Lark Taylor's foray into the contemporary MM genre and I got to say folks, she knocked it out of the park!

From the blurb:

What happens when a world-famous rock star gets trapped in a lift with a journalist?

Ollie

I thought my day couldn’t get any worse. After catching my best friend and girlfriend in bed together, the only thing going right in my life is the interview for my dream job.

But fate is laughing at my expense. One mishap leads to another until I find myself trapped in a lift and missing my interview.

And I’m not alone.

I’m about to discover unexpected things about Luca Weston, lead singer of the world-famous rock band, Caffeine Daydreams.

After we’re rescued, I can’t stop thinking about Luca. Given I’ve spent my life burying my emotions and identifying as straight, obsessing over an unobtainable male rock star is a whole new experience.

When I’m suddenly assigned to be the journalist following Caffeine Daydreams on their tour, can I resist Luca and keep things strictly professional?

Luca

Getting stuck in a confined space with a journalist should be my worst nightmare.

But something about this uptight man intrigues me. Ollie has me opening up in a way I never have before.

The lift doors open, Ollie walks away, and I wonder if I’ve missed my chance with the man of my dreams.

When my manager insists on having a journalist follow us on tour, I know the perfect man for the job.

I have six weeks to find out if the chemistry between Ollie and me is real, and if it is, I’ll turn my whole world upside down to keep him.

White Noise is a s*xual awakening, forced proximity, MM rockstar romance. The first in the Caffeine Daydreams series, each book will follow a different couple as they find their HEA. Although better read in order, these books can stand alone.

Angel's Review:

I've read other books by Lark before and I'm used to be putting through the emotional wringer with her books. So, I kept waiting for the moment to have to break out the tissues and for her to cause the tears to flow.  I was pleasantly surprised, however, that this terrific book wasn't as heart wrenching!

Luca is a famous rockstar who is getting tired of all the fake people and paparazzi. He's also getting fed up with his manager, Kevin. When he arrives at the building to do an interview with a magazine Kevin insisted on, he gets trapped in an elevator with a man who sees the real him. Not the rockstar.

Oliver is having a very bad day. After discovering his girlfriend in bed with his best friend he shuts those emotions off and heads to his job interview... Only to get stuck in traffic due to a car parked in the middle of the road, have to fight his way through a crowd, and he got hot coffee poured on him. To top it all off, the elevator he's in loses power. What he thought would make his day even more disastrous, actually opened his eyes to something truly remarkable.

Lark knows how to write, and she wrote the heck out of this story! Luca knows he wants Oliver from the get-go, and while Oliver is more timid and weary, these two eventually talk and find that they work very well together. Although, the actual talking portion didn't occur until after they had all their steamy fun times. These two made me want to pull my hair out at times, simply because they refused to communicate about what they wanted out of what they were doing together. But! That just made it so much better cause the chemistry just kept building, and building between these two men. They were electric together, and even though a certain... Pesky weasel tried to separate them, they were able to make it through that.

So, other than loving the main characters, along with the storyline and how well this was written. I also really liked the side characters, we almost kept getting hints into future stories.. (possibly). Jack and Arlo, Kai and Silas... I'm so excited to read what's to come next!

And Lark! Why must you allude to something traumatic happening to Arlo right as the book is ending?? Just.. why?

"There is one single thing I can't cope with. One. And that's not having you in my life. It might be too fast, might sound soppy, but nothing matters to me except that."

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's Review:

"I wanted the kind of love that led to Grammy award-winning songs. The kind that left you feeling like you had a hole in your chest when you were apart from them. Like you could finally breathe easy when they were near."

I'm a big fan of Lark Taylor's Reckless Damned series, but apparently the woman can write the hell out of a contemporary romance as well. I loved the whole meet cute between Ollie and Luca. Getting stuck in an elevator with a world famous rock star sure wasn't on Ollie's agenda for the day. In fact, the only thing on the poor guys agenda was making it on time to an interview for his dream job. It seemed like fate was laughing at him over and over again when nothing could seem to go right that morning, starting with walking in on his girlfriend and lifelong best friend doing the nasty in his bed. Talk about a shitty start to your morning. Then again, the events of the day led to Ollie's lateness, in turn causing him to get onto the elevator at that precise time, so maybe it wasn't the worst day after all. I don't think he and Luca would have crossed paths otherwise.

Luca was a fascinating character. He loved the performance. Being up on stage and singing his heart out he was in his element. What he didn't love was all the things that came with it. The constant media scrutiny. Never knowing if someone was present in his life only because of his fame. It must have been a breath of fresh air to spend time with prickly Ollie who seemed to give a shit less about Luca's fame. A man who didn't immediately fawn over him. A man who makes him work for it. No wonder he jumped through hoops to be able to see him again.

"It'd been a long time since someone had made me chase them. I didn't plan on letting Ollie outrun me."

There were some bumps in the road to their courtship. Assumptions were made and some outside forces led to much of the upheaval. Thankfully Luca and Ollie worked things out in the end, but not without putting in the effort. I enjoyed the epilogue a lot and look forward to the rest of the band members getting their HEAs.

Heather's Review:

Lark Taylor gives us a rock star romance, complete with a forced proximity meet-cute, a lot of behind the scenes manipulation and of course steam!  We meet Luca and Ollie and also get to know the other members of Caffeine Daydreams as this first book in the series lays down the foundation for the rest of the band to find their HEAs too!

I truly appreciated where these two men come from and how their past experiences filters into their relationship.  There is just a little angst, a heap of sexual awakening and two very sweet men who deserve their HEA!
