The Teacher Inside Me by Anthony Auswat

The promise of a gay thriller, not romance was what drew me in. From the first page I felt the unmistakable vibe of this dark, intense read, daring me to go on.

From the The Teacher Inside Me blurb:

A forbidden student-teacher obsession. A queer coming-of-age thriller. A story that lingers like a bruise you can't stop touching.

Liam is just trying to finish high school and keep his secrets to himself. Mr. Hilton, his English teacher, is everything Liam shouldn't want—straight, married, and way off-limits—but possibly...interested. What starts as an innocent crush blurs into something more real, more intense, and more dangerous than either of them can control.

Because some lines should not be crossed. Some lessons can't be unlearned. And some desires come at a terrible price.

Originally racking up 2.6 million reads by a global audience on Wattpad before it was banned, this newly revised and completely uncensored edition invites you back into the shadows—rawer, deeper, and more haunting than ever.

The Teacher Inside Me is an emotionally charged LGBTQ+ psychological thriller about longing, power, and the darkness within us all.

Perfect for fans of:
– dark academia tangled with forbidden queer romance
– slow-burn obsession filled with dangerous twists
– literary LGBTQ+ fiction with psychological depth
– banned novels
– vintage pulp paperbacks
– stories about boys who should know better but absolutely don't

This is the book they tried to bury—but The Teacher Inside Me is too disruptive to ever disappear.

GaleM's review:

The gritty, fast paced story line quickly unfolds from Liam's POV - a student in his late teens, just shy of finishing high school, who is going through the peculiar metamorphosis of turning into a young adult. The story doesn't gloss over the heavy subjects, especially how important and life altering are the unstable, toxic family environment when a person is navigating the special years of growing up, the lack of a family member, you trust, who can be a pillar of support, understanding and a listening ear. Add to that the heavy weight of responsibilities, no child should carry alone on their own, like a sibling with special educational needs, neglect, alcohol addicted parents and overwhelming internal and external homophobia, it's no wonder, Liam falls into the unhealthy obsession with his first crush so brutally fast, oblivious for any red flags and complications. And the significance of who, this person of interest happens to be, is another layer of complexity - Liam's English teacher - Mr.Hilton. The author has masterfully described the Domino effect of every decision a person makes in their life, the way these decisions connect, forming a web of influence, affecting the present and the future. Considering Liam's youth, inexperience, lack of guidance and real parental presence, the depth, complications and the twists in the maze of events, flowing between the pages, are that more heart touching and chilling to the marrow of the bones. Liam is adrift, unanchored, lost, swimming in the darkness, relying only on himself and his only friend while wrestling with the fear to come out as gay.

The Teacher inside me isn't a story about justifying wrong choices, but for living with the gravity and consequences of everything Liam does and did. One seemingly innocent crush shouldn't have condemned his soul to live in the aftermath of life altering, mind shattering situation, where everything that could possibly go wrong, actually goes wrong.

If I have to summarize what I feel and what I think, this is a fascinating, really disturbing and thought provoking story, describing in intricate details how a person's youth could be stripped of their innocence in every possible aspect - emotionally, physically and mentally. A story about the hard choices, the price of every lie and the weight of fear driven decisions; the importance of having people you can truly rely on, the internal strength to make sacrifices, that hurt and to live with painful memories, that will never go way.
