Bean (Honorably Discharged Book 2) by Nora Phoenix and E.M. Lindsey

Continuing the series about a found family group of former Army teammates, we get a chance to experience Bean's first encounters as a bisexual man and the sweet silver bear that he meets in a bar...

From the Bean blurb:

After my medical discharge from the Army due to a brain injury, I’ve had to reinvent myself. Not easy when I can’t even remember what I ate for breakfast.

Or the hot, older guy I went home with. Oops.

When I run into him a second time and hit him up as if we’ve never met before, Jarek’s a little insulted. I can’t exactly blame him. But when he learns my memory is shit, he seems flattered I’ve picked him up twice.

And he’s all in for hooking up again. And then again. Our chemistry is off the charts.

We’re just friends with benefits, nothing more. I want to take my time exploring who I am, and Jarek wants the happily ever after and white picket fence.

But the more time we spend together, the more I question if it’s really only friendship I want from him. I’m getting awfully attached. Could it be we want the same thing?

Bean is the second book in the Honorably Discharged series, featuring a sweet guy who’d forget his own name if he didn’t write it down, a guy who thought he’d never find love again, found family, an age gap, friends-with-benefits to lovers, hurt/comfort, and a steamy happily ever after.

Heather's Review:

When these two authors collaborate you know you're getting a deeply involved story that may not always be pretty, but will always make you feel like you have a front row seat to the action.  I absolutely love Bean and Jarek together... it's a high heat story that slowly builds the relationship - at least in the eyes of the two protagonists...

It's also well researched and sympathetically written in a way that showcases Bean's TBI without making it the whole story, and without making it the dealbreaker.  I also love that Bean is proactive and seeks to use the tools around him to better adapt to his situation.  I love the way Jarek interacts, not only with Bean, but with his Honorably Discharged brothers, and also how the side characters and found family impact the story.

This book is best read in order after Creek, but can be read standalone if you are looking for the tropes in this story.
