The Great Maple Mistake is part of the Love in Maplewood combined universe. This is a small town meddling neighbors romance. Who would've thought that one little miscommunication could lead to falling in love?
From the blurb:
A small-town photographer who’s given up on love meets a smoking hot firefighter with a smile to melt hearts. Try as they might, some flames are impossible to resist.
Alex:
Maplewood is as wonderful and cliché as you’d imagine. Sure, the town gossips share everyone’s business, but neighbors look out for each other. Nowhere else would be as accepting of me as this queer-friendly small town I grew up in. The only problem? A lack of eligible bachelors. So when a gorgeous new guy moves to town, the Maplewood grapevine is in full swing, and this time, I’m paying attention. Though maybe not close enough, because Cody and I literally run into each other. I hit him with my body, he hits me with his boy-next-door smile, and poof, my heart’s gone. Too bad sexy, sweet guys like him aren’t really interested in guys like me. Once he gets to know me, he’ll change his mind.
Cody:
You’d think that moving to a small town named Maplewood means I’m prepared for maple-flavored everything. You’d be wrong. And the stuff is everywhere, so how do I tell my new neighbors that the taste makes me gag? That problem is solved when a misunderstanding has them believing I’m allergic. Sure, it saves me from eating any more maple. It also feels like I’m lying. I try to explain, but there’s no stopping the Maplewood gossip mill. Especially when the adorable photographer I almost trample fans that flame. But I can’t even be mad about it. Alex has this sweetness to him that pulls me in like gravity. And little by little, he’s letting me get close. Eventually, I’ll convince him to trust me, to give us a real chance. When he does, will that mean I’ll owe ‘us’ to that annoying maple mistake?
The Great Maple Mistake is a low-angst, small-town contemporary LGBTQ romance about a local cutie looking for love, a sexy firefighter with a maple aversion, baking show obsessions, fluffy kittens, rumor mills, and a connection that’s more than skin deep.
With the highest percentage of LGBTQIA+ residents in Vermont, Maplewood is a town where everyone belongs. And with festivals year-round, there’s always something fun happening! This multi-author, low-angst queer series features ten standalone romances—each set against the backdrop of a different festival. Come for the celebrations, stay for the happily-ever-afters!
Heather's Review:
I absolutely love these two! Alex and Cody are so adorable together and the running maple allergy story line really brings home the small town nature of this romance! I have a similar story to Cody's regarding maple and it warmed my heart to see another person who is now maple-adverse after od'ing... and Beck Grey takes that thread and runs with it, without overdoing it...
The couple gives us steamy, sweet and communicative as well as bringing out their personalities in a way that make them truly memorable...
I truly love how seamless this series is - proof that this group of authors really shared and collaborated on making this world come to life and I can't wait to see what comes next!
Molly Otto's review:
Alex & Cody are brought together by the best possible miscommunication in this beautifully unique small town. Cody can not get it through the towns head he is not allergic to maple. he just hates the taste (yes, I'm judging him a little for that), yet this brings these two together. thoroughly enjoyed it took these men time to get together and when they did take the next step Cody was so brilliantly Cody about the situation all tension just slipped away. Alex is a beautifully strong character who knows his true self and doesn't let that stop him from happiness, even though past interactions make him cautious at best.
The towns shenanigans were well played as with the previous stories of this combined universe. It was nice to see the authors obviously communicate with one another to ensure a cohesive storyline. I've been enjoying all the town festivals and looking forward to seeing what comes next. Crossing fingers and toes Graham and Luke will also be getting stories in the future, absolutely adored their steadfast love for one another.

Spoilers ahead. I like that their first meeting is at a festival since Maplewood is all about festivals. The running story about Cody and maple is a nice touch and the basis of this story. I love the side characters as they definitely lend themselves to the story. There is a nice sizzle between Alex and Cody and I love the way Beck handled Alex’s transition. It’s a nice quick easy read with a HEA. I would love it if Beck could could do a novella letting us know what happens to some of the side characters :)
Angel's review:
I'm a big fan of Beck's writing and this book is sweetness personified! I love romance books of all sorts, and I do love angst, but there are times where a sweet, fluffy, romance story really shines and that's what this story is.
Cody and Alex are a match made in Maplewood, they are absolutely precious and I love, love, love how they made communication a priority. They always made sure to discuss things first, and to ask for permission before doing certain things and I loved that. I also liked the transgender representation, that's always been important to see in books but even more so this year.
I adore small towns in books and this small town blows all the others out of the water with how accepting they are of everyone. Granted their gossiping might go a bit too far, but they have good hearts and mean well. The scenes where Cody rescued those kittens and then kept Tux was SO adorable! He's such a sweetheart in more ways then one and I adore him.
The side characters were fantastic additions too and I really liked how Beck made the planning or the Bake Off as integral to the story as the actual Bake off was. I liked reading about how Alex and his committee planned it all out and how they were going about organizing such a cool event. If my town had a Bake Off I would definitely be attending! All in all, an excellent small-town romance!
