Ten things about Susu Khaa - an Author Interview

I love that our community has so many diverse authors who write M/M Romance and today I'd like to introduce you to someone who I met through Facebook, author SusuKhaa, whose published work can be found on both Amazon and Wattpad!

Let's dive right into the interview...

Indie or Traditionally published? - Tell us how this works for you…
Right now, I’m all indie. I have no idea about publishing with a publisher when it comes to BL stories. I’m new to writing in the genre--been watching them a while though.

Plot or Pants? Do you pre-plot your books, use an outline, fly by the seat of your pants or some combination of things? How do you keep track of characters in a series? Do you keep a journal of your characters’ statistics, such as hair and eye color, relatives, hometown, etc.
Usually, I don’t plot. But lately, with starting a new job, going to school, writing in other genres, I find it easier to plot when I write BLs now. It allows my brain to kind of turn off an work on automation - that is until edits lol

Tell us about your first… published M/M fiction/romance
The first MM (bl) I published is KISSING IN A DREAM. It’s free to read on Wattpad and that one was a complete pantser story. I didn’t plot one thing - It was just to get my feet wet and I wanted to have fun with it. It’s about 2 college students who started out not really disliking each other, but not liking each other either. They intrigue each other but aren’t really sure if they should really even be friends.

and then your most recent one..

My most recent is titled LOVE IS…, it’s book 2 in my Wicked Games series. It’s a “my best friend’s brother” type story and takes place in Thailand and Vietnam.

If you could invite 4 people (real or fictional, living or dead) to a dinner party, who would you invite and what would you serve?

Bacteria (The author of A Tale of a Thousand Stars), Sammon (Author of Manner of Death), Rap Monster (from the group BTS--I’ve always been super intrigued by how his mind works. Everyone who meets him say he’s a genius and very intelligent and from the lyrics he’s written for his solo projects and for the group, they aren’t lying), and Edgar Allan Poe - I mean, come on! The man was ahead of his time.

What are your writing goals for the next year? The future?
I commissioned a book cover from a manga artist and the story is pretty much plotted out. A bunch of my readers are waiting on it. I need to finish writing it for release in the coming year. I’m trying to focus on that one - it’s a beautiful cover.

What is the funniest scene you’ve written?
In my Wattpad story WHERE MY DEMONS HIDE, Star is talking to his friends about what happened between himself and Dragon the night before. He’s upset that Dragon didn’t make a move on him. Without realizing he’s upset or that he’d said that out loud. His bestfriend Ohm is like “wait, did you want something to happen?” To which Star replied “Yes! No! Wait--shut up!"

What’s the hardest part about writing?
The uncertainty. I mean, just because I get an idea and write about it, doesn’t mean anyone wants to read it, right? That’s the hardest part--putting a part of myself in the words and no one wants to read it. But, I still do it. My father away tells me “just because you’re scared, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.”

What made you decide M/M romance was the genre you wanted to write? Do you write other genres?
I usually write MM and MF. But I was encouraged by some of my followers on a Asian Drama site I frequent to try my hands at BL. They were super cool about me doing it and when I did try, I found I enjoyed it.

What do you do if you hit a wall while writing? How do you combat writer’s block?
Cry? Lol. Seriously, I listening to music (mostly Kpop). I go for walks, talk to my best friend, rewatch my favourite dramas and bl dramas. I try to take a break from the words and hopefully when I do go back with fresh eyes, that helps.

What do your friends and family think of what you write; do they know?
LOL no. More specifically, my friends know. They think I’m nuts to be taking on another penname with everything else I do in my life, but they support me. They buy my goodies, share my links and the like. My family knows I write, but not that I write mm/bl. Their heads would explode.
