Gross Misconduct is a sweet read of finding the balance between love, life, and discovering where you're meant to be. Jack and Griffin will take you on the perfect journey of on and off the ice banter as the two of them learn that rivals and lovers can mean the same thing.
From the blurb:
As a high school hockey star, I was on track for greatness. Until an opponent attacked me on the ice, leaving me half blind.
For the past twenty-seven years, I’ve avoided hockey and its painful memories. But when my old teammates get back together to play in a local recreational league, I realize it could be a chance to rewrite history. The only person standing in my way is Jack Gross.
Hockey isn’t complete without a rivalry, and ours comes courtesy of the Blades: they’re younger, faster, and fronted by Jack, a former professional hockey player who hates my guts after a rooftop hookup gone wrong.
His cockiness and penchant for pranks make me hate him right back. But Jack has a special way of getting under my skin that makes me want to get into his pants. And well, I only have so much willpower.
As our teams get closer to a showdown on the ice, Jack begins shedding his armor of confidence. Despite getting to live the life I dreamed of, maybe Jack is as messed up as me.
The championship game could redeem the past for us both. But there can only be one winner. Will victory taste as sweet if it costs me Jack?
Gross Misconduct is a rivals to lovers, age gap, single dad, gay romance with no cheating and an HEA. It is book 1 in The Comebacks, a series about a friend group of single dads who were hockey all-stars in high school and looking to recapture the magic in their forties. Whether they win or lose, there's always a post-game beer.
Molly Otto's review:
The latest of the Sourwood universe brings us to beer league hockey and the Comebacks team. Griffin was cut in his prime in a hockey accident that caused him the game he loved as well as most of his eyesight on one side. Jack, a young hot shot whose NHL career wasn't all he wanted it to be, returns to Sourwood to see what's next in his life. These two have hot as fire chemistry with great banter on and off ice banter that allows them to move on from the sport that once met everything to them. On rival teams, they learn to find that right balance to not affect their play but also be happy.
AJ, in his usual fashion, invokes his unique humor with a great cast of men who I look forward to seeing what comes for them next. With that right amount of Sourwood, cameos to visit old friends to see how their lives have been going but not too much for those who haven't read his previous works.
SNik's review:
First in series (The Comebacks). Age gap. Single dad. Adversarial to lovers. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Griffin is a plane mechanic, single dad in his forties, that missed his chance at pro hockey due to an injury, and when he is convinced to join the local rec league he runs into the almost hookup that he had an instant connection with. Jack embraces his confidence and expert flirt game like the bossy bottom and former pro hockey player that he is, but the missed opportunity with Griffin makes it easy to be angry and lash out at the handsome older man.
Clashing on and off the ice, Griffin and Jack can’t seem to escape each other’s orbit, and when making out brings good luck, they agree to not mess with the hockey juju while giving in to the mutual attraction. Other than the rocky start, I enjoyed every time Griffin and Jack were on page together, the banter, the spice, and the slow build to feelings. There are some cameos from some of the author’s previous series, some fun supportive secondary characters, embracing the fun of hockey again, and a special connection for two guys that makes everything brighter.
Heather's Review:
A.J. Truman has leapt into the sporting world with this latest series... and the first book serves up Age Gap, single dad, slow burn, rivals, and of course, hockey! This book was fairly low angst and starts with one of my favourite meet ups - the hook-up gone wrong.
I love how their lives converge and how Griffin helps Jack work through his transition from NHL start to his next chapter... and of course the chemistry and banter are off the charts!
I can't wait to see where this series takes us next!
