My Revenant (Runaways Book 1) by Ronan Marlow

A brand new series full of crime, passion, mysteries, and the power of love from a debut author!

From the blurb:

"There were demons beneath my skin, and they lived to serve my devil."

Jonah

I’m being hunted.
No matter where I run, the devil always catches up to me. There is nowhere I can go where he can’t reach me. Dex Weller is the devil in human skin, and he calls to my inner demons. I have to run from him and the world of violence he belongs to, because I know if I don’t, I’ll surrender to him completely, and he’ll drag us both into Hell.

Dex
He cannot escape me.
Jonah Hargreaves is mine. He’s been mine since the moment we met. I saw it in his eyes, the way he wanted to surrender everything to me. For a while he did, but now he’s on the run. He’s my prey, my scared little rabbit. It’s only a matter of time before I catch him again, and when I do, I’ll make sure to keep him forever.

Angel's review:

This story was interesting, it had chapters that depicted both the past and the present, and those varying chapters were marked clearly and concisely. Often times when a book goes back and forth between different times frames things get muddled and confusing, but thankfully that didn't happen here.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Dex and Jonah's past as well as their reunion during the present too. Their story is unique in the sense that they have a lot of history between them that slowly gets revealed to us overtime. We don't get all the facts right away which I liked, I really enjoyed the slow discovery of what happened between Jonah and Dex and how despite everything they came back together and was better for it.

This book is full of quite heavy topic matters so make sure you read the trigger warnings before diving into this slightly deranged romance story. Even though these two depict an unconventional love story there is no disputing that Dex loves his little Rabbit very much, and that Jonah loves his Devil more than anything.

My only critique with this book is how many spicy scenes there were, they started to feel like filler instead of actually providing anything crucial to the plot or character development. That's definitely a personal preference though, and other than that, I liked reading this book. I'm very much looking forward to reading book two in this series! Ronan, you've got a loyal reader now!
