Welcome back to Hex, Indiana, a sanctuary town for the different. HEX MARKS THE SPOT is low angst crossroads demon king and shifter bat pairing.
From the blurb:
Welcome to Hex, Indiana…
Poe
As the king of the crossroads demons, I hold all our secrets, and they aren’t all fun. I do my best to keep things running properly and modernize when I need to. But crossroads demons are slowly finding their truths, being released from duties, and I’m starting to flounder. Becoming the head of Hex, Indiana’s leading council has helped, but is it enough when I’m used to ruling over thousands? I’ll help anyone however I can, but what if I’m the one that needs it?
BB
I’m a bat shifter with the confidence of a piece of string. So, none. I have no family and I’m too scared to get close to anyone. The only reason I know about Hex, Indiana is because of an incident in a store where I panic shifted into a bat. Afterwards, a strange lady appeared and told me to go to Hex. I snuck in three months ago, but now I’m too afraid to do anything other than go to work. The one thing saving me is knowing I’m close to the demon I met as a teen. The one that said if I needed anything, to let him know. He’s handsome, but I won’t ask him for help. Just knowing he’s around is enough, even if our first and only encounter lasted less than ten minutes.
When the pair meets again, Poe’s world turns upside down and BB learns what it’s like to have someone looking after him. What happens when a possessive demon falls head over heels in love with a sweet bat shifter?
Hex Marks The Spot is a fluffy, spicy MM paranormal romance featuring a sweet life inexperienced bat shifter and the king of the crossroads demons ready to help BB find his confidence and enjoy life.
Molly Otto's review:
Welcome back to Hex, Indiana! This time, our crossroads king past comes to light, and he finds his perfect match in Beau. Beau comes to Hex to be able to live among the prenatal and not just in his bat form. When the storms become too much, Poe is brought in to help relax him. These two have a sweet bond of love and understanding with open communication to build a stronger bond. Together, they help the other fight their pasts for a brighter future. Not all is going as planned in Hex, and the Council is needed to fix the issues before its too late, and they lose one pr more of their beloved townspeople. As always with Morgan's stories were fun to see the past couples living out their best lives and showing us glimpses of futures stories to come from this world.
This book was so cute! Beau is absolutely precious! He's been through so much loss in his life but he still tries his best and he always tries to make sure to treat people with kindness. Due to what happened to him in his past he's terrified of storms, and when a storm front moves in he knows it's going to be a rough few days... What he didn't expect was for a certain demon to get involved...
Poe is so sweet! He has gone through a lot of anguish in his life as well, he's still being punished for a mistake he made centuries ago, but he's still trying to do his best. When an unexpected bat shifter has him as an emergency contact he immediately tries to help the man who's in distress. He never expected to fall for the adorable man who loves animals and desserts.
This was honestly so so cute and very sweet! Even though Poe didn't know who Beau was in the beginning he still jumped in to help the bat shifter any way he could. He made sure to offer different ways to help and provided him with things that brought him comfort. Their relationship was so endearing, I loved that they had conversations about the things that scared them the most. I liked that they had those big and important decisions in the beginning and then revisited them as their relationship progressed. They had open communication and were very supportive of one another and I just found them so cute together!
((((Spoiler ahead)))
I wish that there was more information given about the people who took Beau, after Poe rescued him it wasn't brought up again after that. Which left me feeling a bit lost because that scene didn't really provide much other then being an excuse for these two to sleep together... So I wish that was fleshed out a bit better)))
I absolutely adored the side characters, Wren and Sparkle in particular!! And Poe's cat, Creamsicle! She's so adorable and whenever Beau was distressed she always tried to provide comfort. Overall a great short story.
