Never Too Late by HL Day is the type of second chance romance we all want. On point groveling, and the work put in to be a better person, these characters will take you on an emotional journey that shows love doesn't have an expiration date.
From the blurb:
Sometimes the only way to protect your heart is to break it before they can.
Finn met the perfect man six months ago. Cillian King is handsome, filthy rich, and has an Irish accent that makes him go weak at the knees. Of late, though, Finn’s remembering that if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Because while he’s in it for the long haul, Cillian is more interested in work—and Finn deserves better than to play second fiddle to an advertising agency.
When the opportunity to relocate to Paris lands in his lap, it’s a chance for Finn to move on with his life.
New job. New city. New start.
Cillian was supposed to be relieved. He wasn’t supposed to turn up on Finn’s doorstep with words of regret and promises of doing better if Finn will give him another chance. It’s too late for that. Isn’t it?
Can a leopard really change its spots? If he can’t, Finn doesn’t know if he’ll be strong enough to walk away twice.
But maybe… just maybe, Cillian’s the perfect man, after all.
Never Too Late is an MM second chances dual POV novel featuring ‘first’ dates in Paris, two men who are meant to know each other, but really don’t, cyber sex, a doomed phone, an adopted cat, and a slow burn relationship (this time) that finally gets steamy.
SNik's review:
Standalone. Second chance. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Realizing that the relationship he had hoped he was building with advertising CEO Cillian was nothing more than a long term hooking up situation, Finn leaves London abruptly for a new job in Paris. Both Cillian and Finn are heartbroken until Cillian tracks down Finn and asks for a second chance.
If you are a fan of the second chance trope, this story has all the groveling, commitment to change, and admitting by both men to try and be better about communicating. There is growth by them both, Finn has to actually forgive Cillian and be willing to start anew and Cillian must really dig deep to find that the importance of having Finn in his life has to be a priority at times over his workaholic tendencies. I enjoyed the sweetness of them falling for each other beyond just lust and attraction, and realizing that perhaps taking a risk requires some sacrifices to see if they can have a long future together.
Molly Otto's review:
When Finn hits his breaking point, he takes a job offer and goes to Paris without another word. Time passes when Cillian shows up in Paris to get the closure. Both men need to move forward. A lot of the blame is on Cillians' shoulders, yet Finn should have spoken up with how miserable he had become by the time their relationship was coming to a close. The groveling is next level, showing true remorse and wanting to try again and be stronger this go around. The side characters are a huge help in showing both men their mistakes and allowing them to rectify those mistakes. Laurent needs a story! The man deserves happiness and an outlet from his life that holds his back. A very well-done second chance romance showing people can change when they put the effort in to be better.
