Liam (Salish Sea Society Book 3) by Leigh Jarrett

Can someone obsessed with his looks and how people perceive him be able to accept someone that society thinks he could never commit to? Liam and Jamal find that a special connection overshadows everything else when falling in love.

From the Liam blurb:

After a lifetime of feeling abandoned and deficient, am I ready for love?

Liam

I've always been obsessed with my phone, constantly chasing likes and validation through pictures of my body. But after attending Noah and Brody's wedding, I realize I want more than just superficial attention. I want a real connection, a loving partner, family—children.

Near the end of the wedding reception, I meet Jamal, a good friend of Noah's and Brody's best man, and I know there is something special about him. Jamal and I hit it off and plan to hang out as friends. But as the day of our outing progresses, it feels more like a predestined date.

I can't resist the way he makes me feel, and I find myself falling for him. He's kind, funny, and has a habit of spouting random facts that I find endearing.

But there is one thing that gives me pause—Jamal is a paraplegic in a wheelchair.

Am I shallow for letting that fact matter? Or will I be able to rejoice in his uniqueness and embrace the amazing person that Jamal appears to be—inside and out?

Liam is a found family, hurt/comfort romance about a member of the Salish Sea Society, a group of four best friends. This novel takes place on the rugged coast of Pacific Canada and is a story about a journey of self-discovery and acceptance. And how a disability doesn't inhibit one's capacity to make meaningful contributions to a loving relationship.

SNik's review:

Third in series (The Salish Sea Society), can be read as a standalone but might be more fun if read in order due to the shared cast of side characters. Disability representation. POC representation. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV.

Bartender Liam is surprised at the deep connection he begins to feel for the LGBTQ center director Jamal, and his hope at friendship turns quickly to romantic attraction although Liam isn't sure he knows how to be in a relationship. Jamal hasn’t put himself out there since his accident and his failed serious relationship ended badly but he can’t help his crush on Liam and the secret hope that Liam can look beyond Jamal being in a wheelchair.

Both Jamal and Liam have had real struggles in their lives, and when they come together to attempt a relationship it is a quick fall into feeling seen and understood and finding someone that shares the same hopes and dreams. There are some good and some bad secondary characters, but Jamal and Liam are likable and so earnest that I was so happy they got their HEA together.
