Just Bromantically Invested (Accidental Love Book 4) by Saxon James

Just Bromantically Invested in Saxon James's Accidental Love series will have you simultaneously in love and wanting to strangle these best friends to lovers. Miscommunication, codependency, and two best friends who need a come to Jesus take center stage in this book that show being self-aware doesn't mean you have it all figured out.

From the blurb:

Madden

My best friend is uptight, gorgeous, the greatest person I know … and I might be a smidge in love with him. Just a small amount. Barely worth the mention.

Which is a stupid choice on my part when the guy is straight.

Starting a landscaping company with him was the perfect mix of doing what I love and an excuse to spend time with him, only it hasn’t completely taken off yet and now he’s telling me he’s lonely.

Lonely.

Apparently having one friend in your life isn’t enough.

So I’m determined to help him find love. With someone other than me. Maybe if I can pull that off, it’ll mean my heart will finally get the message and move on.

Or finish breaking into a hundred pieces.

Same thing, right?

Penn

Being besties with an overenthusiastic, gold-hearted, nudist of a man is a challenge sometimes. Madden makes everything sunshine when he’s around.

The problem is that he hasn’t been around as much lately. We work together, sure, but he’s got his roommates and I have … no one. Just him. So I feel the distance acutely.

My one reassurance is that we have work tying us together, but when an old client calls with a proposition for us, it feels like our once solid friendship is unraveling fast.

He wants Madden to help him open a nudist resort, and if Madden’s doing that, he won’t be working with me.

I’m trying not to panic over the thought of losing him, which is a typical, common best friend reaction. Nothing out of the ordinary.

And neither is the way my body has been reacting to him lately.

Everything is totally, completely normal between us.

While there’s still an us at all.

Molly Otto's review:

Madden & Penn have been best friends for a long time who have always been there for each other. Madden is self-aware that some of his lifestyle choices aren't for everyone and decides to step away and help build a place where his lifestyle is accepted. Penn has always been close to Madden, and when he feels him pulling away, he realizes something new about himself. Penn is aware he has a co dependency issue, yet he doesn't communicate them enough with Madden, which in turn hurts him. When these two do communicate, it works when they don't. You want to strangle them a little and be you are best friends for a reason show it. Madden is learning to step away from the Bertha Boys and realizing how much that dynamic affects all relationships in his life. It's nice to see him become aware and make progress on better all aspects of his life.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:

"I sweep my tongue over his lips, and he opens for me, tongue meeting mine. Masculine, warm, tasting like Penn and all I've ever wanted."

We are back with the Bertha boys and it's time for the resident nudist of the house to get his man! I've been intrigued by Madden ever since he appeared in book 1. I mean, a gorgeous fit man who spends all his time naked? Who wouldn't want to know more! Thankfully we get plenty of naked Madden time in this book and we also get to understand the reasons behind his lack of clothing. I appreciated that aspect of the book because personally I think I would rather die than walk around naked with strangers present, but I can see how it would be a freeing experience for some. Not to mention I feel like I know a bit more about who Madden truly is.

Penn was pretty much a total mystery for me. I knew he was Maddens bestie and that he must be accepting of Madden's lifestyle, but not much more than that. I didn't expect how needy Penn was going to be since up until then the man identified as straight. On the other hand, the friendship between these two was closer than most. They even own a business together. Your lives cannot get much more intertwined than that. Penn already wanted to spend all his time with Madden before they became involved, so it shouldn't have been that surprising to me that it translated the same into their romantic relationship.

"There's too much rocketing around in my skull to take hold of, but my body is coming through loud and clear. I want Madden. I just want him."

Penn and Madden had a lot of things to wade through emotionally before they could get to their HEA. Their friendship means everything to them, so both are understandably terrified about what would happen if they were to lose one another by a relationship gone wrong. I really felt a lot of their fears could have been helped with better communication, but we all know that those who call Big Bertha home aren't exactly poster boys for great mental health and coping skills. Though to be fair, Seven is all for telling his brothers how important working with a therapist is.

Speaking of therapy, I am guessing you all know who is going to be next! Xander makes a few appearances in this book and I can honestly say he is not handling his issues well. The poor guy needs professional help. However, no one can force him to comply. He has to want the help or it won't work. Hopefully Derek can do what every single one of the Bertha boys have failed at. I guess we'll find out in the next one.

Heather's Review:

I love an oblivious friends to lovers story and Saxon James gives us a fabulous one with Just Bromantically Invested...  It has the slow build you expect, the pining, the questioning and the bisexual awakening that are hallmarks of the genre... but you also get Madden rushing off to help his roommates and Penn pulling away to protect his heart..

I love how their relationship grows as they finally start talking to each other about what they actually want and stop second guessing their besties...
