Enchanted Hearts (Cauldrons and Kisses) by Jacey Davis

Part of the Cauldrons and Kisses universe where witches find their fated mates. Enchanted Hearts pairs a witch with a reptile/ human hybrid in this low angst story.

From the blurb:

Lyndon:

It wasn’t good to stand out in my world. Ever since the existence of parahumans was discovered a few years back, humans made it their mission to make our lives as difficult as possible. That is why I prefer my little cabin in the middle of the woods. There were plenty of plants to work my Earth magic, and I was far enough away from society, and my meddling coven, to stay under the radar.

Then one day, a portal opens up in the middle of my vegetable patch and out walks Darcy. Darcy couldn’t blend in, even if he wanted to, his reptilian appearance making it impossible. He’s loud, he’s curious about everything, and he doesn’t belong in my world. All I need to do is figure out a way to reopen the portal and get him back to his world. The only problem? Darcy is my soul mate.

Darcy:

I guess this is what I get from walking through a random portal in the middle of the woods. My curiosity got the better of me, though, and now I was stuck in a strange new world with a grumpy witch. Lyndon wants no part of me and is desperate to have me gone, but I can’t seem to walk away from him. My soul screamed to his the moment those purple eyes met mine in his destroyed garden. I miss my home and my friends, but I know I won’t be able to let Lyndon go. Now I just have to convince him that sometimes it’s okay to be different, and it’s not always better to be alone.

Cauldrons & Kisses is a multi-author series of MM magical standalone stories. Each low angst read will feature a witch finding love.

Molly Otto's review:

Cauldrons & Kisses is proving to be a well-balanced, well thought out universe. Each a story of a witch finding their mate in unusual ways that affect all around them. Enchanted Hearts follows Lyndon, a cranky witch who thinks he deserves a solitude life paired with Darcy, a hybrid reptile man sunshine of a character who makes Lyndon open his heart. These two, looking at you, Lyndon, take a minute to accept their bond, but when they do beautiful. The chemistry in the bedroom is hot and was fun to see how they accommodated Darcys' other worldness. Lyndon has a crazy family that I hope we get to see more of in the future, cause if it wasn't for them, this probably couldn't have worked out. This is the prequel to Jaceys upcoming world, Hearts Haven, that I believe we are in a treat for. If you previously read PIECES OF ME, from the Monster Match series it does help to know more of Darcy backstory as well as his best friend and his mate, but didn't find it necessary to enjoy this story.

SNik's review:

Part of a multi-author series (Cauldrons and Kisses), but can be read as a standalone. Paranormal. Fated mates. Forced proximity. Grumpy/sunshine. Slow burn. Quick read. Dual POV.

Stepping through an unknown portal is probably a bad idea, but meeting his fated mate is worth about anything to Darcy, if Lyndon accepts the bond. A solitary witch by choice, Lyndon is no good for anyone, especially the sunshiney parahuman from another realm, surely Darcy would get sick of Lyndon soon enough.

This is a sweet fated mates story, with two special people that get a huge helping hand from a goddess in order to recognize they are best together and are supposed to build an important life together. Both Darcy and Lyndon are sweet (Lyndon’s grumpy-ness is from fear more than anything), and actually appreciate and accept each other when eventually fully embracing being fated. A bit of found family, a bit of steam, and two people overcoming their personal fears to love each other.

DuffetteReads review:

Darcy was so cute & adorable in Pieces of Me, I couldn't help but wonder who he'd give his sunshine to. And now I know, it's the grumpiest witch to ever grump.

These two needed each other and never knew it, til you know, mysterious portal in the middle of nowhere.

I love the set up for future books in this realm & cannot wait to see what the author has in store. Especially for that mischievous little cousin, Ambrose.

Also, bonus points, Darcy's packing double in his pants. Very hot.
