This world just keeps improving, and the characters are growing the more this series continues. I'm absolutely captivated by these characters and their stories.
From the No Shame blurb:
Wanna keep what’s yours?
You gotta be a little shameless.
As a child, Gunner McKinny was given a choice. Rule in Hell or serve in the human realm and protect his little brother. He doesn’t regret the vows he made, but it’ll be a cold day in hell—literally—before anyone controls him like that again. Aside from his brother, he trusts no one. Most are terrified of him anyway.
Just how he likes it.
Vero Cap grew up rejected by his own kind, but he has zero use for the damn fae. His ability to disrupt technology was invaluable to the anarchists who raised him. He owes them everything for keeping him alive—except that loyalty didn’t go both ways. When a mission goes wrong, he’s left behind.
At the mercy of the High Guard, whose sole purpose is to defend this realm from creatures like him.
One horrific mistake leaves Vero facing lethal consequences, but he’s spared by the demon who’s become his jailer, and an uppity seelie, Jae, who hides his softness behind a gilded mask. Vero isn’t into the whole military vibe of the Guard until he fights with them and falls in love. Now he has a reason to stay.
But none of them can escape their pasts, and when Jae ends up tangled in the web of the Golden Court, Gunner and Vero will stop at nothing to free him.
Even if it means making a deal…with their very own nightmare.
Angel's review:
When I read No Escape (the first book in this series) I was immediately pulled into this world full of monsters, magic, and mayhem. I did not want that book to end, I just wanted more from the characters and to learn more about this unique world. When I saw that a second book has been released I was so excited, it made me eager to dive in.
I'm going to start by saying this book is as incredible as the first, if not better. After reading No Escape I knew that this author knows how to write fantastic characters and knows how to immerse you into the world they created with their words. Even though I knew from the first book that Bianca is a good writer, their writing in this book surprised me. In the first book we didn't get to learn much about Gunner, Vero, and Jae but within this story we got their whole backstory from each of their perspectives.
Oftentimes time jumps can be muddled and end up throwing the story off, but Bianca handled the time jumps expertly and made those moments fit seamlessly. Those helped provide insight into these men and what their lives were like before the compound. I enjoyed being able to learn about all of these men from their own perspectives, that was done really well. All of these men have heartbreaking pasts but overtime and after a lot of stubbornness they help soften each others sharp remarks, and work towards breaking down the walls they have had to build to protect themselves. I really loved the side characters, they not only help provide that found family aspect that the compound has created, but they also help progress the storyline, in addition to providing wonderful dialogue and insight into each of the MC'S lives.
While Jae wasn't my favorite in the first story, I was able to understand him better with this book. I learned why he behaved the way he did, I learned why Vero was so determined to leave in the beginning, and why Gunner tried not to get too close to anybody. I liked being able to learn about each of these men and being able to better understand them. The buildup of these characters getting together was so good!! Definitely a slow burn as far as admitting feelings goes. It was done so well!
The plotline itself was full of twists and turns, secrets that got unraveled, and plenty of detailed action scenes. Solomon's character made me cry, he's such a sweetheart who was raised and treated like something he isn't. I hope he gets his own story, I would love to see his character grow. What I enjoyed the most was seeing all of the other characters from the first book in this one. Such as; Jethro the elder dragon, Edric, Lyric, Nicky and Axton just to name a few. Aside from Solomon, we got introduced to several new characters, most of which are bad, but Rowan's character is good guy and he was a pleasant surprise! I hope he'll be in future stories. Overall a terrific addition to this series with an amazing overarching plotline, and has a steamy romance between three stubborn men who realize they love each other. I hope there is more to come from this series, I don't feel as though this is done just yet. The fae courts seem to have their sights set on the Guard and I'm curious about what's going to happen next. If you're wondering if this book ends with a HEA I would say.. technically yes for the couple. However, for the plotline itself, I would say this has more of a HFN ending.
I'm hoping there will be lots more to come from this series!!
