Finally, the story of Carver and Styx continues...
From the blurb:
Carver
I drove across the continent to escape memories of death, accusations, and a crashed career. I took refuge in the small town of Mission City, British Columbia. I'm content here with my good job and two rescue dogs, until the day I bump into an old friend. Styx is an echo of the tragedy I'm trying to forget, but he's also broke and alone, and I have to invite him to stay with me. Problem is, he's gorgeous temptation personified. Can I be around Styx every day without losing my peace, or my heart?
Styx
My bandmate Baxter and I were supposed to be on a road-trip to forge a new life in Vancouver, after the death of our drummer. With my vocals and guitar and his keyboard, we hoped we might still make a living from our music. Except before we got there, Baxter vanished in Mission City, BC, leaving me stranded, low on cash, and homeless in a new town. When I run into our former roadie, Carver, on the street, it's a gift from the gods—a friendly face and a place to stay. But Carver's also the guy I crushed on for years, and I don't know if I have the strength to be just a friend, or to leave when it's time for me to go.
Carver’s Craving is an age-gap, interracial, small-town romance between a rock star chasing a dream, the man he thought he’d never see again, and the two cutest rescue dogs ever.
Lesetiger's review:
Now here’s the rest of the story about Styx and Carver from *Styx’s Storm*. I’ve really grown fond of the stories set in Mission City, and I’m glad to run into familiar characters every now and then.
This time, the focus is on Styx and his former band. After the death of drummer Frank, Carver moved far away because he felt guilty about the incident. The two remaining band members, Styx and Baxter, had planned to make a fresh start in Vancouver when they got stranded in Mission City due to a car breakdown. Styx is in town and can’t get in touch with Baxter anymore. Pretty much penniless, he doesn’t know what to do when Carver happens to see him. Although the earlier incidents were the reason for his move away, Carver is immediately willing to help Styx, which is why Styx temporarily moves in with him. What follows is a struggle with his feelings, since Styx has always had a crush on Carver.
I really liked Styx, and you could already tell there was chemistry between them on the very first night they spent together. I find Carver very likable, because he has a soft spot for dogs and has given a home to two dogs that no one else wanted. In addition to the slowly developing romance, the book also offers suspense, because Baxter still hasn’t shown up after several days.
The story was entertaining, the backstory wasn’t exactly straightforward, and— like all of Gabbi’s books—it had a happy ending.
Michael Dean did a fantastic job narrating the audiobook, and as always, it was a great pleasure to listen to this story—he did an outstanding job, conveyed the emotions perfectly, and read the story with variety, bringing it
to life.
