Be My Vengeance (Be Mine Book 3) by Davidson King

Revenge is the only thing driving Alex after the assassination of his wife. His best friend Danny stands by his side, loving him secretly and trying to protect him so they can both survive Alex's vengeance.

From the blurb:

Alex’s entire world fell apart in the most violent way possible, and now he seeks vengeance on every person who destroyed his happily ever after.

Alex Walker’s life is all about revenge, and he doesn’t care if it takes him down with it. However, there are many people who love him and are willing to help him retaliate against those who took the love of his life away from him while keeping him alive. With his life on a path to self-destruction, it will take his best friend to push him out of the way and make him see that he’s not dead inside, he’s only just starting to live.
Danny Brooks has been hopelessly in love with Alex for years. He watched him fall in love and get married, then lose it all. Danny had every intention of quietly pining for his best friend until the end of his days and for him to never find out. But secrets never stay under lock and key, and now Danny not only has to keep Alex alive, he’s also hoping he won’t lose the one person who means everything to him.
With a war in their midst and bodies in their wake, Alex gradually learns to lean on Danny and accept his comfort while they navigate new emotions, dangerous situations, and try to build a forever that neither of them saw coming.

Be My Vengeance is book 3 in the Be Mine series. This is not a standalone book. It’s recommended you read book 1 (Be My Monster) and book 2 (Be My Ruin) first.

SNik's review:

Third in series (Be Mine), best if read in order. Widower. Best friends to lovers. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Alex lost his wife the day of their wedding and he has been on a mission of revenge ever since. Danny has loved Alex for years, but he only wants his happiness and it seems like revenge and grief may be destroying the man he cares about.

This story is of course driven by Alex’s grief and Danny does his best to be supportive, but he can’t hide his feelings. When there is the chance to acknowledge there might be something more that could grow between them I appreciated that Alex did not hesitate or have regrets. I do wish we got more about Alex and Danny’s friendship prior to recent events in order to see how truly close they were so I missed that connection between them. Overall, I enjoyed Alex’s drive for vengeance, the support he receives from Danny and others, and the ease in which they eventually start a more intimate relationship together.

Katriana Prey's review:

Danny Brooks was my forever, and I was his.

I have been wondering about how Davidson was going to write Alex's story because let's be honest, we all knew it wasn't going to be a nice one. After what he went through? What he lost? Or rather, who, he lost? I knew it was going to be a brutal story and I was right.

This book is the darkest in the series by far, rightfully so. Alex is on a war path and has been ever since his wife was brutally murdered at their wedding. That war path included a lot of dead bodies, torture, gore, and him making reckless decisions that his best friend Danny tried to save him from. Alex once believed he didn't have anything to live for other than vengeance... Turns out he was wrong, and the reason to live was right in front of him all along.

I love Danny and I felt for his character. He's been in love with his best friend for years, before Alex even met Mila, but he kept it to himself. Now he has to watch his friend slowly slip away while trying to keep him from getting k1ll3d, and also still having feelings for the man. That's a lot for anyone to handle, and I have to say that Davidson did such a good job at not being afraid to go dark with this story. Sure, the blood and gore are dark elements, but the things these characters go through and experience are dark in a different way. This book is heavy, and brutal, its full of angst and heartache, but its also full of friendship, perseverance, vengeance, and love.

Their road isn't easy, it took them a while before they admitted their feelings, (understandably so), but once they did it was beautiful to see. Alex has been through so much so it was really nice seeing him get his happy ending even if its a bittersweet one.

All in all, another fabulous book in this series and I really hope we get another book about two side characters that made appearances in this book.
