Colliding Hearts (Rainbow Redemption) by Jax Calder

One tragic meeting, one anonymous reunion, one love that can't be denied. Felix doesn't expect to hook. up with his one time rescuer, but attempting a friendship when they both want something more becomes impossible.

From the blurb:

One voice kept me alive in the darkness. One Halloween night changed everything. One secret threatens to destroy it all.

When my car plunges into a ravine, a stranger's chocolate-cake voice becomes my lifeline in the endless dark. But after I’m rescued, the mysterious paramedic vanishes without a trace, leaving me with nothing but scars and memories.
After a year of avoiding mirrors and first dates, I manage to hook up with the hottest Darth Vader in existence while dressed as a surprisingly seductive Yoda. But the morning light reveals my one-night stand is not only my new neighbor but also my long-lost rescuer.

Jared and I try the just-friends route, but who can resist a guy who bakes brownies and gives great massages. When our connection extends into a friends-with-benefits arrangement, things become complicated. Especially since I’m still learning to navigate a world where my face no longer opens doors and my wit has become my armor and my greatest weapon.
Before the crash, I was the guy who could charm anyone with a smile. After? Let's just say Frankenstein would think I'm having a rough time.

I'm falling hard for the man with the chocolate-cake voice, but every time we get close to something real, Jared pulls away. Are my scars holding him back?

Or is Jared hiding secrets of his own?

Colliding Hearts is a novella set in the Rainbow Redemption universe, but can be read as a standalone book.

SNik's review:

Third in series (Rainbow Redemption), but can be read as a standalone. Novella. Neighbors. One night stand to friends to lovers. Single POV. Heed content warnings.

A car crash changed the trajectory of Felix’s life, and a one night stand reunites him with the man that saved him after his horrible accident. But the connection with Jared is unexpectedly special as they become friends then friends with benefits and Felix has a chance to feel like his scars don’t matter at all.

What a surprising read this was! This story was filled with heartache, personal growth, fear of rejection, and all sorts of swoony moments between two men that can’t deny their strong emotional connection. Felix is an amazing character that has survived and persevered through something difficult he has to live with every day and yet he is filled with humor, kindness, and a new appreciation for life. Jared is also a dreamy romantic character, always supporting Felix, embracing his joy and humor, and he is so loving that it is hard to understand why he is holding back. The heat is spicy, the climax heart wrenching, the HEA fantastic, this story made me smile and cry.

Molly Otto's review:

One fateful evening changes Felix and Jared in ways neither are prepared for. another year, they have another chance of being in each other's orbits, but that fateful night a year ago changed both men are they ready for more? Felix doesn't feel anyone can love him now that he lost his 'beauty,' so a FWB situation is his perfect way into entering the world of touch once again. Jared is the perfect man for him, yet Felix knows something is still not quite right. When the pieces fall as they must, both men are once again changed forever. I highly appreciated Jax had all members receive therapy to move forward from what they all experienced. They did a beautiful job in showing why things were held back and took time to come out, even if it hurt everyone. The bond they share shows how much these two men were meant to be together, even after they all have been through, these two belong together. A beautiful read that I won't soon forget.

Angel's review:

When I read the blurb for this book I was intrigued, but I was also skeptical on how this book was going to turn out based solely off of the blurb. Let's just say, Jax proved there was no reason to be skeptical.

Jared and Felix's relationship starts in an unconventional way, their first meeting was when Jared saved Felix, then when they reunited a year later on Halloween dresses as Darth Vader and Yoda, neither of their meetings were conventional but that's what made their story so unique. These two men will pull at your heart strings, they definitely pulled at mine.

They are quirky, full of life, relatable, funny, and love fiercely. Even when things are difficult, and when insecurities come out to play, they have each other's backs. After all Felix did say that what they have is 'lifetime connection.'. These two men, and Emmy, made me laugh and cry, and I enjoyed reading every part of this book. Even the hard parts when secrets got revealed, which let me tell you was a doozy! But I'm so glad these two were able to work things out and have their happily ever after.

(Emmy's character is definitely one of the many highlights of this story, she's such a chaotic ball of sunshine! Just like Felix.)
