An absolutely brilliant and creative fairytale retelling with amazing characters and lovely Triad relationship!
From the blurb:
Can three lonely, wounded hearts make a whole?
Johan had resigned himself to spending his life alone. Until them. Until two sets of scared but fierce amber eyes peer at him through curtains of silky white hair, and Johan’s heart takes on a new beat. A beat he can’t ignore.
Despite escaping their captors, a dark cloud looms over Elias and Henrik’s heads. They were bought and paid for, after all.
However, their luck appears to change when they cautiously accept the offer of a roof over their heads from a kind but silent shoemaker. Only, it was meant to be a stopping-off point, a place to re-group before they start their new life. They had each other, and they were not supposed to fall for him.
Struggling to recover from invisible wounds, the two elves can’t always bear the weight of each other’s burdens. But maybe he can…
When it becomes the talk of the town that a local, unassuming shoemaker is selling elf-made shoes, will they be able to evade their captor once more?
More importantly, will they ever truly belong to themselves again?
This GriMM Tales retelling is an MMM romance featuring two kind but dramatic elves healing from their time in captivity and a shoemaker who yearns for connection in a world that has ostracised him for his inability to speak. Sometimes, a whole is three-thirds instead of two halves.
Each book set in the GriMM fairytale world can be read as a standalone and contains its own Happily Ever After story. Though you’ll definitely want to read each one, as the tales are connected to each other in multiple magical ways.
Angel's review:
I am so obsessed with this series as a whole but getting to read each book individually and seeing how they simultaneously connect yet also stand on their own is just such an amazing experience.
I've picked up on the crossovers in the previous books and I was so happy to see past characters pop up in Elias, Henrik, and Johan's story as well. I won't spoil who all makes an appearance but let's just say it wasn't just one past character...
I'm going to be honest, this book surprised me in the BEST way possible, when I read the blurb I wasn't sure how Emory was going to be able to create a story for these three men and have it feel real and have depth while also bringing the classic fairytale to life. And I have to say they did an absolutely lovely job with executing both of those things and more, I had no reason to worry!
Elias and Henrik are two elves who get rescued by a certain someone...but the freedom they've always dreamed about and yearned for isn't what they thought it would be.... When they encounter a man who can't speak words but talks with his expressions and his eyes and offers them shelter and food, they begin to realize that there is something special about the gentle hearted man... And maybe, just maybe, they can finally get their happily ever after, even though it looks different than what they imagined.
Elias, Henrik, and Johan all broke my heart in different ways, I just wanted to give them all a big group hug. They've all been through so much heartbreak, abu$3 and betrayal, yet they find a reason to continue on with their days, and to get back up and try again. These men have been knocked down repeatedly yet still find the strength to stand and try once more and honestly I find that really admirable. I absolutely adore these three men, each one of them stand out, they each have very strong personalities in their own ways. Elias is bubbly, stubborn, and doesn't have issue with speaking his mind, Henrik is the shyer more thoughtful one out of the two elves, he has a quiet steadiness but is also prone to causing fights that could've been prevented. And Johan is this steady, caring, thoughtful man who just wants to be loved and to love others. Even when things with his two elves are precarious, taking care of them and making sure they are happy is his primary concern.
Their relationship isn't an easy one, there are bumps, and kinks that they have to work through but once they open up to each other, they prioritize communication which is sooo important! I'm honestly happy that their relationship had some ups and downs, they needed to figure out where and how they fit into each other's lives and how their future was going to look for them as a Trio, and they did just that. I think those raw moments, those moments where you weren't quite sure if they'd be able to settle their differences or not added a really nice depth to the story as a whole and made it feel more real.
Overall a truly fantastic story and is definitely in my top 3 of this series so far!
