The Misfits of Copper County has an accidental fire that leads to this forced proximity romance.
From the blurb:
When you burn down your contractor’s home… and kind of, accidentally invite him to move into yours.
First things first, that fire was a fluke. A tragic, completely unintentional byproduct of high emotions, an ill-timed backyard grilling… and one very shirtless man.
I only meant to confront Brewer—my maddeningly stoic contractor—about a few small concerns with the renovation of my historic money pit.
Instead, I got distracted by his muscles (who grills shirtless in February, I ask you?), I tripped over my words—and my feet—and… well, my carefully-ordered life went up in flames.
Suddenly, Brewer’s living in my attic, his dainty teacups are in my cabinet, his slobbery dog is all up in my business, and I find myself renovating my whole future just as surely as Brewer’s renovating my home.
Copper County was never my endgame. Once I finish writing my article, I’m off on my next assignment. But between late night conversations, sledgehammer therapy sessions, and solving the Jam Cupboard Mystery (it’s a real thing, I promise), I’m starting to think we’re building something neither of us expected.
Because the more I learn about Brewer, the more I realize I’m not the only misfit in Copper County. And that maybe it’s time I stop chasing other people’s truths… and start writing my own.
Molly Otto's review:
May Archer do what May Archer does best by bringing in humor with a fun mystery. Delaney & Brewer can not seem to get on the right footing. Delaney hired Brewer to redo his home, yet he had trouble agreeing to his decisions and takes it offensively when they were not his choice. Brewer, being in the business for a while now, can't understand why Delaney won't listen to his advice. These two are so dang stubborn it is no surprise that they tend to butt heads with every decision. When an accidental fire takes Brewer from his home, he moves in with Delaney until he can find somewhere else or he moves on. much shenanigan's endure until the two realize their banter is flirting. For me, in this story, it led more on the antics between the MCs vs. their building connection, so it was not my favorite of the universe. Overall, it is still an enjoyable read when I want a lazy day of reading, just not my favorite in the universe. As always, it was nice to see past characters getting up to their usual mischief of making people feel welcome to their community, even when the person doesn't exactly want to be fully immersed into the community.

After accidentally burning down his contractor Brewer's home, a flustered Delaney offers a room at his own house in order to help him get back on his feet. After all, that's the right thing to do when you inadvertently cause someone to become homeless. So what if they constantly argue and Brewer being sexy AF is distracting to no end. No biggie. Delaney can handle it. Spoiler: He can't!!
I really enjoyed this romance between Brewer and Delaney. Both of them are the type of men who hold their cards close to their chests so you can imagine how difficult communication was between the two. As they grew closer, they both began to realize that their hearts were getting involved, yet neither of them wanted to say anything about it. There was a lot of assuming between the two in regard to what they believed the other was looking for. And you know what they say about those who assume...

When it finally came time for Brewer and Delaney to open up about their feelings, Archer decided to tease us a bit longer. I swear everyone who lived in Copper Country decided it was the perfect time to need something from either Brewer or Delaney. I was going nuts!! Thankfully, we weren't tortured waiting too long, and it was actually kind of adorable how it all turned out in the end.
The Misfits of Copper County is currently available as an e-book and paperback
