A couple of special men find their perfect match. Can a computer dating agency really predict an everlasting kind of love?
From the August's Thief blurb:
Love works in mysterious ways.
August Angel walks in shadow. Permanently disfigured after a childhood accident, he’s failed at finding love the conventional way and spends most of his days lonely and alone. As a last hope, he signs up to CUPID, a dating agency boasting a 100% success rate.
Collecting his first date from a police holding cell is not the promising start August anticipated. Dawson, a sassy unrepentant thief, is not the ideal boyfriend material he’s been assured. But Dawson needs someone to pay his fine and August has money to spare.
As Cupid might say, they are a perfect match.
This novella originally appeared in the Heart2Heart charity anthology. No new content has been added.
SNik's review:
Standalone novella. Single POV.
August doesn’t believe the perfect match can be made for him, especially not when the computerized dating agency sends him to pick up his date at the local police station. But Dawson is a surprising breath of fresh air, doesn’t seem to care that August is disfigured or has money, and is solely dedicated to caring for his twin brother.
Such an unusual set up and a lovely quick story of how two people can meet and love easily no matter their differences, and it does end up being a perfect match. I really enjoyed that there was no angst, that both August and Dawson had a lot of love to give, and that there was a little bit of finding someone that takes on all your burdens without complaint. A sweet little romance.
Molly Otto's review:
A beautifully quirky love story of a bot named CUPID setting two men up who wouldn't have found each other. August has been let down by all dating apps not having others accept him for who is until desperate times call for desperate measures. Enter Dawson, a beautiful soul whose lifes purpose is caring for his twin, Mikey, even without the means to do so. They may meet under unique circumstances, yet they were made to complete the others' lives. August not only loves and cares for Dawson but Mikey just as strongly and irroctivavbly. A well composed novella that tells you just enough to be satisfied while still being able to imagine their future together after.
This was my first book by this author and I very much enjoyed it. The story is single POV from August's perspective. He is a wealthy, lonely man who seeks help finding his perfect match from the app and match-making bot, CUPID. It's his last ditch attempt and he doesn't have much hope of success. To his surprise, CUPID matches him with Dawson, a young man struggling to get by and care for his handicapped twin brother.
Their meet-cute is pretty funny as CUPID sets them up on a first date at the police station where August is expected to bail Dawson out of jail for shoplifting. Dawson is a force of nature and a ray of sunshine despite is hard life. He is the opposite of the older August (not clear how big the age gap is), but the two work really well. August quickly falls in love with Dawson and also adores his twin, Mikey. Dawson also falls for August, but has to think of Mikey first.
Both men have hang ups due to their personal baggage (August has a facial deformity and Dawson doesn't quite trust that anyone can love him and Mikey for the long haul). CUPID, however, seems to be a touch magical and knows exactly what each of these men needs.
The story is short enough to read in a single sitting and is a low angst with mid-level steam. It was a nice way to relax for a short while over an afternoon. I'll definitely read more by this author.
