Striking a Chord at Randy's (Diner Days) by K.C. Carmine

Striking a Chord at Randy's by KC Carmine is the perfect addition to the series.
Trent and Charlie are former best friends to lovers who come together to show off what a versatile author this is. Sweet mixed with heat and two fun characters combined in an already affirming shared world makes the perfect recipe for an HEA.

From the blurb:

Can a rocker fall for a gym bunny? Nah, no way. But what if the big, muscly guy looks sad? Well…

Moving out of his hometown after college gives Trent the freedom to shape his life the way he wants, out of his brother’s shadow. Running into his childhood friend is not what he expected but exactly what he needed. Amidst the chaos of new discoveries, his closeness to Charlie unlocks his heart and mind.

With supportive family and friends, Charlie lives as his true self. His past comes stumbling into his life in the shape of a muscled, cute-as-a-muffin guy who shakes the foundation of the walls around Charlie's heart.

The new feelings threaten to jeopardize their friendship after they just got it back.

A story of a rekindled friendship, a bi-awkening, opposites attract, and trans joy.

Striking a Chord at Randy's is a low angst M/M opposites attract romance between a trans male music lover and a lost boy about to have an awakening. A standalone novel.

Molly Otto's review:

Well, here we are again, another great addition to the At Randys series! KC is known for their more angst and high heat writing. Well, they prove that with this book, they can write the same heat in a low angst sweet story. Just proves to show what a great collection of authors that was put together to make this series the way it was meant to shine.

Charlie & Trent were childhood best friends who needed to have time apart to Charlie could have a true fresh start at becoming his true self. When Trent moves to Boston and happens to stop in Randys, he gets the surprise of a lifetime. These two are so dang sweet for each other yet are pure fire in the bedroom. Trent may be new to the queer scene but takes to it like a duck in water with the watchful eye of Charlie. Both these men have big dreams, and the love and support of their friends and family are able to achieve those and so much more. They show us much the queer community supports one another to live their biggest lives in this beautiful story of rocker and future gym owner.

SNik's review:

Part of a multi-author series (Diner Days), but can be read as a standalone. Childhood bestfriends. Opposites attract. Transgender representation. Low angst. Light BDSM. Found family. Quick read. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Deciding to help a stranger in distress turns into a reunion between childhood friends Charlie and Trent. But the memories of their close friendship can’t compete with the current attraction between the hopeful rockstar and future gym owner.

I really appreciated that this story was low angst, and there was no hesitation between Charlie and Trent when they decided to explore beyond their newly reestablished friendship. I thoroughly enjoyed how they built their intimacy together with tons of honest communication and all the steamy interactions felt a little swoony as well. Charlie and Trent were likable and fully supportive and committed to each other, there were supportive secondary characters, and a lovely HEA.

Angel's review:

Trent and Charlie's story is so sweet. These two men were once friends in their childhood before Charlie transitioned, and when Charlie had to move away, that was the end of their friendship.

Now many years later they have found each other once more, and are learning new things about one another.

I found both Trent and Charlie to be sweet characters, they each have gone through their own heartache and self discovery journey, but through that heartbreak and journey, they found each other. I thought the relationship between these two men developed naturally, and oh so sweetly.

I liked that they were able to pick up their friendship that they had years prior, and were able to grow and develop it further. Trent's character grew more and more as the story went on, and I love seeing how he casually accepted not only himself, but Charlie as well. Overall a great story!

Heather's Review:

One of the hardest things to do as a trans person must be to 're-meet' an old friend you lost touch with before your transition... and that's what Charlie faces in Striking A Chord at Randy's.  I truly enjoyed getting to know Charlie and Trent as they fell back into their childhood friendship and realized that they wanted something more!

I love how they had little moments of remembering the past, but they didn't stay there... truly forging ahead with a new relationship... and it was spicy, sweet and swoony!  I love that they lifted each other up and wanted to help each other reach their goals, as well as fitting together romantically and with their kinks.

This was another wonderful addition to the Diner Days series and so much fun to read!
