Raising The Sun (Tales from the Tarot) by Eryn Hawk 10/24

Another release in the Tales of the Tarot series is here! Eryn Hawk brings us a sad little flower shop owner and the diva of a demon who brings him out of his funk!

From the Raising the Sun blurb:

Isaac Miller is a failure—in business and life—but he’ll be damned if he asks for help. When his older brother sends him to an occult shop of all things, the cryptic man behind the counter offers up a spell that'll supposedly lead him down the path of success. Isaac doesn’t believe in magic, but when the incantation causes a demon to show up in his bedroom through a puff of smoke, he may have to reassess his beliefs.

The beautiful yet arrogant menace holds the key to all of Isaac’s desires, but apparently, the morally grey don't work for free.

Amadeus, ‘Ash,’ is growing weary of his usual mischief and mayhem, and is in need of some thrilling venture to sink his fangs into. When he finds himself summoned to the human realm by a delightfully desperate florist, it’s as if fate has dropped an entertaining new endeavour into his lap. Luring the innocent man into his bed would be one way to cure his boredom, so what's the harm in pretending it’s part of the deal?

What Ash doesn't expect is to feel compelled to heal the defeated creature, and discover that doing so might just fill the void in his soul.

Could this accidental summoning turn into the perfect arrangement? Or is the road to happiness paved with malicious intentions and wilted blooms? There’s one way to find out.

Raising the Sun is a standalone MM romance with size difference, flower shows, and magic spells. It features a sassy phoenix-demon contracted into helping a human realise his worth and a self-conscious florist who is struggling to keep his crumbling business afloat. It’s part of the multi-author collaboration TALES FROM THE TAROT. This novel is based on the major arcana card THE SUN.

Jacqueleen the Reading Queen's review:

"I side-eyed the smirking demon I'd accidentally summoned all those weeks ago. The one who, in his own way, had made me feel more deserving of happiness than anyone ever had."

This was such a sweet addition to the Tales of the Tarot multi-author series! Isaac starts out completely down on his luck. Well it's more of a rut of his own making. When Isaac opened his flower shop he had big dreams and goals for the place. Unfortunately, he's fallen into a bit of a depressive spiral and this has affected his work. He's finally found himself desperate enough that when he takes his brothers advice and visits a magic shop, he ends up leaving with a spell. One he performs in his bedroom before passing out for the night. Isaac definitely did not expect to see a demon standing in his bedroom when he wakes up.

Ash is a spoiled demon. He's a total posh diva with a snooty attitude to match. So when he ends up in a tiny apartment after being accidentally summoned, he's wondering if just killing the human will fix this whole thing. But he has gotten bored, and he also wonders if this human could be the excitement he's been craving.

I loved how Ash totally got Isaac out of his comfort zone, but in a playful way. Once he got to know him, Ash was determined to make Isaac see his true worth. He may be a total snob, but somehow Isaac got his to long frozen heart. It was actually quite sweet. And spicy! Ash is a demon and he knows how to temp folks. Their steamy times were HOT and naive, virgin Isaac didn't stand a chance. I don't think either of them thought when they met that the other was going to be the person to change their lives for the better, but that is exactly what happened and I couldn't be happier for them both!

Molly Otto's review:

A fun novella about believing in yourself and trusting your instincts, this book, while a little fast-paced, had a lot of good parts. Ash and Isaac are perfect for each other, giving the other exactly what they need and filling voids they didn't realize needed filling so badly.

A fun, quick read, this is my first by the author and I wasn't disappointed by how it all came together, from the inclusion of the tarot card, to the low-angst love between the two characters. It just worked in all ways.
