Miners of the Tempest (The Miners Mine Book 2) by Penny Moss

Oliver and Tau keep being pulled apart and then reunited, although each time the danger becomes even more perilous for them and their friends. Another adventure where there are some new obstacles to overcome and their survival is not guaranteed.

From the Miners of the Tempest blurb:

In the depths of the Tesera Mine, Oliver’s hope of finding Tau again fades with each passing day. Just as despair consumes him, his Sentinel returns, only a shadow of the mighty being he once was.
Oliver swears revenge against those responsible, but there’s no time to plan or savour being reunited, as a deadly mistake forces him and his friends to escape.

With no other choice, and a weakened Tau, Oliver traces the steps of his missing teammate to war-torn lands. He’s wholly unprepared to discover the toll exacted by mining for magic, and it’s worse than Oliver could have ever imagined. His hunger for revenge becomes a desperate need to put a stop to the atrocities committed, even if it means forming an alliance with an adversary.

In a sea teeming with horrors and growing distrust among his friends, Oliver and Tau find solace only in each other’s embrace.

SNik's review:

Second in series (The Miners Mine), must be read in order. Paranormal fantasy. Established couple. Found family. Multiple POV’s. Cliffhanger. Heed content warnings.

Oliver and Tau keep getting separated and it’s taking its toll on them, they don’t have a chance to rest while they are constantly encountering trouble. Their small group agrees to a journey, first to find their friend, then to help stop the Elder's horrible experiments. The storyline is at times confusing, since none of the main characters have any information about what they are dealing with, the danger and action were constant and sometimes the purpose was unclear.

There was still the support of secondary characters for the most part, but some have their own motivations that are not explained and provided some tense moments during the group’s adventures. This book ramps up the steam between Oliver and Tau and we do get a little more insight into Tau’s thoughts about being with Oliver, they are both committed and in love. I am still invested in these characters, although they are mostly clueless and stumbling along, but they are doing it together and there are still 2 more books to come.
