Fall of Us (Season of Change Book 2) by Joelle Lynne

These two men have been best friends their whole lives, but will their friendship survive when romantic feelings get involved?

From the Fall of Us blurb:

I'd risk it all just to get a taste of you…

Brandon

My plan was perfect… until it wasn’t. Whenever my heart was shattered, you were always there as my source of comfort. So when it happened yet again, I took the opportunity and put my plan into action: One kiss. One kiss shouldn't ruin us. Couldn’t. What we had was unbreakable. I didn't think I'd become obsessed, or that I'd want it again and again, but that was why I had to pretend it didn't happen. You meant too much to me to put it all on the line. I couldn't lose you if we failed. But it's becoming too unbearable, and I'm haunted by the memory of that one time we gave in. Can we take the biggest risk of our lives?

Andrew

My secret was mine… until it wasn’t. Did you know that I'd always wanted you? You dangled what we could be in front of me, but I couldn't tell if you meant it or not. Then, without a word, everything went back to how it was before, like it hadn’t happened. But it had, and I couldn't let it go. My heart still aches for you, and after watching you give yourself to other men for years, I'm at the end of my rope. We could be amazing if we weren't afraid, and I think it's time we give in again. Will our risk pay off or will it be our fall?

Fall of Us is book two in the Season of Change series. It's got best friends who learn to become lovers and all the feels. While it can be read as a standalone, it is best enjoyed in order.

SNik's review:

Second in series (Season of Change), but can be read as a standalone. Best friends to lovers. Hurt/comfort. Dual POV.

Andrew and Brandon have been joined at the hip since they were born, best friends their whole lives, people already think they are more than friends but they have never taken the leap. Both Andrew and Brandon are in love with each other secretly but are afraid to mess up their friendship, and finally take a chance for something more.

A sweet read with plenty of spicy times, there were no problems with the physical side of their relationship blooming. Andrew and Brandon’s transition to lovers was not without its hurdles, but they both were truly invested in the love they felt and wouldn’t let it go. The supportive group of family and friends were lovely and there are hints as to future couples in the series getting their own stories.

Angel's review:

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and best friends to lovers is even better! That's exactly what we got in this story. Andrew and Brandon have been best friends their whole lives, but when platonic feelings morph into romantic ones neither of these men are quite sure what to do about it. Until Andrew realizes he's tired of being scared, and the chance to be with Brandon is worth the risk.

I thought this story overall was decent, I felt like things in the beginning were a bit rushed. Things progressed between Andrew and Brandon quite quickly at the beginning, only for that pace to completely slow down for the rest of the story. I understand that both of these men felt as though they had a lot to lose, but the back and forth that Brandon put Andrew through was not something I particularly enjoyed. I understand why the author added in that aspect to add angst to the story, but for me it dulled what had happened prior to all the back and forth.

I don't understand why Brandon wanted to keep his and Andrew's relationship a secret, after all the years they've both spent pining, you would think that Brandon would be happy and ecstatic to finally be with Andrew... Only that's not what happened, quite the opposite. He kept Andrew like his dirty secret, and I just did not enjoy that component of the story.

Maybe that's just a me thing, but that threw me out of the story. Overall not a decent story, I was just hoping for more from Andrew and Brandon.
