Who Said Mobsters Were Scary? (Mobster Mayhem Book 1) by Aria Clark & J.F. Miev

Both Leo and Chai are straight but when thrown together there is a attraction they can't deny. Chai is determined Leo will be his new bodyguard and Leo is just as determined not to be dragged into another possible criminal gang.

From the Who Said Mobsters Were Scary? blurb:

LEO

I left the US for a fresh start. A self-centered mafia heir with stalker tendencies is the last thing I need on my head. And the job he’s offering me? I’m definitely turning it down.

Except he’s sexy, charming and won’t take No for an answer. He stirs in me things no man has stirred before, but I blame that on the fact that I need to get laid.

After all, even straight guys can find other men hot when it’s been a while, right?

CHAI

I need a new bodyguard. But finding a good match is harder than you’d think.

Until Leo saves me from an ambush in one of Nagoya’s back alleys.
He’s reckless, a little wild and his pretty blue eyes are impossible to forget. My father won’t like him one bit, and not just because he’s a foreigner.

But I made up my mind the moment I caught Leo trying to spy on me. He had his chance and he blew it. Now I want him, and I won’t settle for less when he makes me look at him in a way I haven’t looked at a man before.

This fun & steamy MM mafia romcom features idiots to lovers, double bi-awakening, double himbo, a power couple with all the green flags, experimenting of the late night type, chaotic cinnamon roll MC, supportive friends and some plot & action to keep things exciting. While the setting itself is mafia, the story is NOT dark.

SNik's review:

First in series (Mobster Mayhem). Double bi-awakening. POC representation. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Trying to avoid some angered gangsters, Leo has fled as far away from New York as possible, all the way to Japan, where he inadvertently helps the heir of a local Yakuza family. Chai is entranced by the blond haired foreign exchange student that knows his way around martial arts, so he offers him a position as Chai’s bodyguard, and he won’t take no for an answer.

My favorite part of this story is that once Chai and Leo connect they don’t see anything or anyone else, and that eventually shows up in some super steamy times once they decide to pursue a relationship. The story was entertaining, even though the writing was disjointed at times, and I liked both Chai and Leo especially when they are on page together. So much lighter than expected, in a really good way, with a little action and two young guys not afraid to commit to each other.

Reed Kaye's review:

This is the first story I’ve read by this author. I enjoy mafia stories and was pleasantly surprised this isn’t the run of the mill story.

Leo is forced to leave the U.S. because of some illegal activities he was involved in due to a girlfriend. He just wants to find somewhere he can live safely and in peace. He gets a chance to be a student in Japan and after he actually makes it there he just wants to settle into the student lifestyle. He makes a few friends and when out one night sees something going on that he just can’t stand back and not get involved.

Chai is the son of a yakuza. One night he gets into a situation he can’t easily get out of but a stranger steps in and helps him. He can’t get Leo out of his mind. He has been looking for a bodyguard and is bound and determined Leo will fill that spot.

This story flows so smoothly. The mystery part plays out so well that I hated to set the book down until the end.
I’m glad the blurb grabbed my attention so I now have another author to watch.

Denise's review:

This is not your typical monster storyline. This has more of the relationship than mafia. Which is nice for a little bit change. This is new to me author and I will read more . I was quite surprised how's the storyline went.Leo and Chai are such a unique couple. The storyline was very well developed and it did not Fray too much from the storyline. It'll be interesting to see if this will continue into a series and I'm hoping it well.
