Don't Fall (Storm Season Book 1) by E.M. Lindsey

A new series that has likable characters struggling with their lives and stumbling upon love. Leo and North may think the other hates them but soon find there is much more between them given the chance.

From the blurb:

That’s it. My neighbor has to die. There’s no other way around it. The man must be killed—and I’ll even find a way to do it gently, but this cannot go on.

Okay, maybe I’m a bit dramatic, but living next to my brother’s best friend who decided to befriend the crows that spend all week spreading garbage across my lawn is not what I signed up for.

I wanted quiet.
I wanted peace.
I wanted to stop fantasizing about the gorgeous man I couldn’t stand.

Unfortunately for me, North is a big presence with an annoyingly sunny smile and a way of making life sound like it’s worth living. And as a widower who wants to spend the rest of my life wallowing, the last person I want around is one who makes me question my new life’s purpose.

But these feelings can’t be real, can they? I had my great love, and I lost him. So that’s supposed to be it for me.
Isn’t that the way things go?

I can’t seem to stay away from North, even when I know I should. And when he starts to make me feel like maybe there’s another happily ever after out there, I find that as cautious as I’ve taken each step, I’m on the verge of falling once more.

Don’t Fall is the first book in the small town, enemies to lovers, heavy yearning, MM romance series, Storm Season. It features a virgin EMT whose smile is hiding a lot of things, a disgruntled, grieving writer who just wants solid sleep and a good meal, neighborhood crows wreaking havoc, cooking lessons, hurt/comfort, and a toe-curling happily ever after.

SNik's review:

First in series (Storm Season). Small town. Adversarial to lovers. Neighbors. Brother’s best friend. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.

Leo’s neighbor is his brother’s best friend and coworker but North, and his pet crows, annoy Leo to no end. Firefighter North isn’t sure what he’s done to anger Leo, but he keeps trying and putting his foot in his mouth anyway and every conversation is a battle.

A really good introduction to a new series with interesting characters and really entertaining bickering and heated arguments with a sprinkling of miscommunication between two likable main characters. Both Leo and North have had really difficult pasts and this haunts them and the relationship they try to build together. Honestly, the story stressed me out and I couldn’t wait to see how they finally come together and share their hurts and fall in love. I really felt for these characters and hoped they could support and love each other which made their romance so sweet. I wish there had been more about their HEA.
