This book cannot be read as a standalone, you have to read book one, A Spark of Something, before you can read this book!
From the blurb:
Ollie Cross here, back with more problems. As we learned last time, after much denial, witches are real...and I am one. Witches are real, and I am doing just...fine...if I ignore the fact that my cat and I were almost murdered by a witch hunter.
Noble’s here with me, so there is that, and my friend, Jahla, is too. But the latter is starting to act weird, and the former, I think, is possibly...hiding something. Oh, also, it turns out, surprise, surprise, I am not even normal when it comes to being a witch. Because why would I be normal in any way in my life? But I will go on, because what else am I going to do? Find more secret doors in my house? Possibly.
Oh yeah, did I mention there is a secret door in my house that leads to a library that is basically a witch’s wet dream when it comes to supernatural and witch-related knowledge? A secret library full of books that possibly lead to me starting a few fires, and ones that may point towards my boyfriend being my mortal enemy... Did I mention I am fine?
Author Note: Villain is the second book in the MM paranormal romance series, A Librarian's Guide to Witchery, a series that is meant to be read in order. Please see inside or my website for content warnings.
Angel's review:
Let me start by saying I am so excited to have been able to read book two in this series! I absolutely loved the first book and the world that Shelby has created. This book was great too but I do feel like it dragged on in some places. And it kills me to say that because I love long books, and I love Shelby's writing, but this one just felt like certain scenes got dragged out longer than perhaps they should've?
HOWEVER!! Despite that I did still really enjoy reading this book, I still adore Ollie, and I think I might adore him even more now! He's absolutely precious and a total sweetheart, I love how passionate he is about books and helping the ghosts he's encountered move on, and I find it endearing how obsessed he is with collecting gnomes. I thought the discovery of him finding out who, or rather, what Noble truly is was written well. I liked that it wasn't glossed over but also wasn't super drawn out.
I enjoyed how we got sneak peeks of what was going on with the other characters, and I cannot wait to see how all these events play out in the next book! (((I really hope they find a way to let Red truly speak to Ollie.))
