Daniel may have died, but he can't leave his brother and friends behind, so he makes a deal. Become a demon and rise from Hell to get back to Earth, with the help of another demon that turns out to be someone he can't live without.
From the blurb:
He died a human. He'll come back as something more.
Daniel wakes up in Purgatory with no memory of how he got there. Lost and alone, things look pretty grim until he finds Chaol—a kalmach demon with an agenda of his own. Chaol offers to help Daniel do the unthinkable: walk through Hell to make the transformation into a demon.
Chaol wants to get to Earth for one reason. Revenge. He didn’t plan on backtracking through Hell with a shiny, good soul, but something about Daniel intrigues him. He would’ve offered to help even if he didn’t have his own reasons to get back to the surface. The longer he spends with Daniel, the more he starts to think he might be compromised. Vengeance doesn’t seem so appealing when it means turning Daniel against him.
The road home is more dangerous than ever. Daniel sets out to become a demon, but with new threats on the horizon, he gets far more than he bargains for. He’ll have to become something unimaginable to protect the ones he loves, including the demon he never planned to fall for.
SNik's review:
Eighth in series (Dark Delights), best if read in order. Paranormal. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Daniel makes a deal while in purgatory, become a halfling with the help of the demon Chaol and they both get a ticket to Earth and Daniel can return to his brother and friends. But there’s something about Daniel that’s calling to Chaol, and running into an avenging angel and Lucifer himself makes things complicated.
This story continues the overarching plotline with demons fighting the turned evil guild, includes the large found family of demon/human couples, and adds another couple in Chaol and Diel that have all the “mine” and touch-him-and-die vibes. Chaol and Daniel fall quickly and completely, their circumstances change with a few twists but it doesn’t affect their bond, and boy howdy do they bring the steam. I did wish that they could finish some parts of the story that end up being a mild cliffhanger, but I can’t be sorry as there is at least one more story/couple to come. I really love this series and each book does not disappoint.
