Stand and Deliver (RAVEN Securities Book 1) by Aimee Nicole Walker

A new series from Aimee Nicole Walker with a former military man unable to stop his attraction to a cheerful but bad luck magnet. Ray doesn't feel ready to fall in love again, but meeting Kit turns an attraction into something he's not sure he can live without.

From the blurb:

A risk prevention specialist with a tight grip on his heart meets the prince of pandemonium who wants to set it free.

For Rayden James, love means devastating loss, so he focuses his energy on growing his private security business and avoiding romantic entanglements at all costs. His dedication pays off when his company lands its largest account yet. But the ink is barely dry on the contract when a chaotic charmer crashes through his defenses and makes Ray crave things he shouldn’t want.

Atticus Livengood is not living up to his name after a teeny-tiny mistake costs him his career, his home, and his dignity. With his self-esteem circling the drain, Atticus makes overhauling his life the top priority. A new job offers the perfect fresh start until a hopeless attraction to the head of security threatens to trip him up.

Sparks fly from the jump, and each new encounter fuels a physical and emotional connection that refuses to be ignored. But surrendering to their desire means making themselves vulnerable to one another and a fickle universe that takes just as quickly as it gives. Will Ray and Atticus stand and deliver for a chance at love or play it safe and walk away?

SNik's review:

First in series (RAVEN Securities). Age gap. Found family. Slow burn. Dual POV.

Atticus has lost his job, his boyfriend, his apartment, and he just wants a hookup but that ends in a dead end as well, so he’s determined to make the most of his new position in a luxury elder community. Running into his missed hookup at his new job site, security professional Rayden knows Kit has the ability to hurt him, but he barely survived the last time he loved someone so he has to keep Kit at arms length.

Kit and Ray have chemistry right from the start, and their attraction fuels flirtation and the crumbling of Ray’s walls. I appreciated that Kit is sympathetic to Ray’s past and their attempt at friendship very obviously hovers on the edge of dating of which they are both wholly aware. As an introduction to a new series the main characters were sweet, the secondary characters supportive, and it is clear that the rest of the RAVEN Security guys are the planned future MC’s. A cute story and low angst romance.
