The strength of their love is growing and Kit and Penny remain on their mission to destroy the Bone Men cult from inside. But they each fear the growing dangers that may rip them apart, and can't see an easy way out to get their own HEA.
From the blurb:
"Living bodies are fragile, temporary things.
Shaken by a brush with death, Kit Mosel and Penny Oliver push forward with their initiation rites. Dark trials edge them closer to uncovering the truth behind the god the cult worships, and what they learn bolsters their resolve to dismantle the Bone Men.
But they can't do it alone.
To stand a chance, Kit and Penny must risk everything by reaching out to others inside the cult, unsure who they can trust, or if betrayal is already brewing. Any misstep could mean exposure. And exposure means death.
Meanwhile, life in Ashpoint feels increasingly hostile as their enemies work to drive Kit and Penny away. With danger closing in and secrets pressing at every seam, Kit and Penny’s hard-won connection—and growing romance—may not survive what comes next.
SNik's review:
Third in series (The Bone Men), must be read in order. Established couple. Age gap. Found family. Dual POV. Cliffhanger. Heed content warnings.
Continuing soon after the last book, Kit and Penny have survived their most recent oath but both have lingering effects from the poison and Penny’s near death. Kit and Penny still want to bring down the Bone Men, but their goal is slightly changing as they find there are other like-minded people in the community.
This story was a much deeper dive into Kit and Penny’s growing relationship, their bond, their caring, their fears, their love. Even as the oaths continue and danger surrounds them, there are so many heartfelt scenes where both men recognize their deep and abiding love for the other and also communicate how important they are between them. I found it hard to care about the community as much, wishing Kit and Penny would just run away, and every time they returned I dreaded it. Luckily Kit and Penny are solid, but the cliffhanger provides a new hurdle in their journey and I await to see the next installment anxiously.
Angel's review:
You know, I'm not usually one for cliffhangers but these two authors know how to do them well and in a way that just leaves you wanting more. This series cannot be read as stand-alones, prior reading IS required or else nothing will make much sense. Please read the previous book first, its a wild ride but a very good one!
Now, onto the part where I gush about this book in particular. It was great! Just as good as the other books while also having a little extra to it, I don't want to spoil anything but so many important moments happened in this book, and I'm so excited to discover what happens next for not only Penny and Kit, but also what happens next for those back in Ashwood.
I think this release has the most romance focused plot of the series so far which I loved! I really adored being able to see Penny and Kit so in love and to see them building their relationship and deepening their feelings/connection to one another was quite beautiful.
Seeing as how I don't want to accidentally spoil anything I'll keep this short. I very much enjoyed this book and I have enjoyed seeing these two authors bring this world to life. I've never read anything like it before and that's what keeps me coming back for more, that, and the amazing writing along with the wonderful characters they've created!
All in all, yet another fantastic book and I am so excited for the next one! Although, I fear Kit will have some groveling to do...
