The Hazard and the Hitman (The Protectors Book 1) by Cambria Hebert

What happens when an anal retentive Hitman falls for a walking hazard whose also a magnet for trouble? Find out in book one of Cambria Hebert's newest series, The Protectors.

From the blurb:

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and being in the hospital with stitches in my head and no way out makes me pretty desperate. So I log in to a dating app, searching for a guy willing to pretend to be my boyfriend so I can bust out of this overpriced nightmare.
But what do I get?
Accused of being a prostitute. Talk about a waste of phone minutes.
With plan A a no-go, I move on to plan B. Escape. Except, on my way to freedom, I’m nearly pummeled by a man wearing all black and with the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen.
When he pretends to be my boyfriend, I’m shook. And even more shook when I discover this is the rude guy from the app.
Turns out he’s not only rude but bossy, irritable, and he keeps calling me a walking hazard. I go along with the lie anyway, thinking I can ditch him as soon as I’m free.
Except that doesn’t happen.
I end up back at his place, eating soup and trying hard not to catch feelings.
Then my apartment is broken into, and I’m running for my life, confused, injured, and with nowhere else to go. Kieran vows to keep me safe, something he seems more than capable of… Which is kinda odd for a real estate agent, right?
As the threat to my life intensifies, I start to wonder if I’ll make it to my next birthday and, more importantly, if trusting Kieran is the deadliest hazard of all.

OMG I just adored this new MM romance from Cambria Hebert. It had her signature feels and lots of laughs, while also giving us a mini mystery to solve along with the characters. The more clues we got in regards to the reason for Haz's attempted unaliving by some very bad men, the more it seemed to only add up to one thing. I was hoping I was wrong, but in this case I wasn't. Thank goodness Haz and his innocent ways had secured himself the most capable body guard ever in his Hitman Kieran.

The hospital meet cute was one of my favorite scenes in the book. Like it was so out there, but I just could not stop laughing at Haz having attempted to find a ride home from the hospital from some random man on a hookup app. A man, it turns out, who also happens to be a freaking HITMAN! The ways that could have gone badly were not lost on me, nor Kieran apparently, since he decided that Haz was going home with him.

This romance was very insta-love, but for me it worked. Kieran is definitely not your average human in terms of emotions and Hazard has spent his entire life alone. Of course he's going to cling to a man who promises that he's going to be protected from now on. Kieran may be a moody AH sometimes, but he certainly keeps his promises to his little Hazard. All Haz has to do is bat those big eyes and Kieran is helpless to deny him. And between the sheets? Holy momma was this book hot!! And the steam was plentiful, without being too much. It hit the sweet spot for me just right.

Of course A Cambria Hebert book isn't complete without a side character to fall in love with too and that man would be Ghost. I'm so intrigued to learn more about him and I absolutely NEED to find out how he and a certain twink knew each other. Was he a past hookup or was this younger man someone from his past? I have all the questions and hopefully I will find answers in the form of a book 2 in this series!
