His Rejected Alpha Mate (Sweetwater Pack, Book 2) by Jax Stuart; Narrated by Jamal Roque

The Sweetwater Pack is one of my favorite series. The opportunity to listen to the audiobook after just finishing a reread has been amazing.

From the blurb:

Finally reunited with his son in his new pack, and free of his former mate, Jasper discovers his fated mate in the heart of the Sweetwater pack. Dakota is an unwelcome complication in an overloaded life.

Dakota wasn't looking for a fated mate. The loss of his love, Cooper, still lingered in his heart. The strange attraction he felt towards his best friend's papa made sense when he met the man. His true fated mate. Rejected instantly, Dakota brushes aside his hurt to make his case but Jasper stubbornly insists they can't be together, denying Dakota of the family he'd started to dream of having.

An unexpected pregnancy brings the pair together. Jasper has to learn to trust not only his life, but the life of his kids, to his new mate when an outside threat comes for the Sweetwater pack.

Proving his worth to his mate, and to himself, has never been so vital to Dakota, especially with his children, and grandchildren's lives on the line.

His Rejected Alpha contains references to past abuse, an accidental pregnancy, (whoops), lots of babies and a strange threat to the Sweetwater pack. This book must be read as part of the series due to ongoing plot threads.

Lesetiger's review:

His Rejected Alpha Mate is the second book in the Sweetwater Pack series. While it can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading His Reluctant Omega Mate first, as there is some overlap and you’ll enjoy it more that way.

Fox shifter Jasper wants to see his son Kade again after five long years and runs into Dakota, Kade’s best friend. What the bear shifter Dakota didn’t expect was to find his soulmate in his best friend’s father. He wasn’t looking for a mate at all; he’s still grieving.

Dakota is incredibly sweet. He immediately connects with Angelica, Jasper’s daughter, and treats her like his own. You just have to love Dakota! Such a sweet, cuddly bear—at least that’s how I picture him.
Jasper hasn’t had it easy in recent years; he’s been on the run and is more of a grumpy type. I had a bit of a hard time with Jasper. Yes, I can understand that he wants to protect his children and his heart, but still, I didn’t always find his actions understandable.

Besides the budding relationship between the two—which Jasper resists as best he can—there’s a lot going on in the Sweetwater pack, and danger looms for the pack. This makes the story exciting and provides plenty of drama, and there’s some action too.

But eventually, the two manage to get together, and then things get passionate! And the focus is on the betas, which isn’t always the case in ABO stories. There are also some interesting side characters, and I’m already looking forward to the next volume.

Jamal Roque did a fantastic job narrating the audiobook. I first listened to him in the first volume of this series. His voice is a bit rough and fits Dakota and Jasper perfectly. I think every character sounds different, and it was a pleasure to listen to him.

Lori C's review:

Performance: Narrator Jamal Roque is fantastic! Listening to His Rejected Alpha Mate has been such a pleasure. The way that the narrator differentiates each character going from deep and growly to lighter and softer makes such a difference as a listener. I especially enjoyed Aldren’s voice. Oh and listening to him pronounce the elven names? Whew! I never would have gotten them right. I am so looking forward to the next book. How will he make Roan and Hiroshi come to life? I can’t wait!!

Story: Oh my goodness! This story was an emotional whopper for me. I kept saying to myself please be patient with him Kota, give him a chance Jasper as if I could make them hear me through the pages. I finished this book and want to start it all over, just to be able to keep the happy feeling going until the next book. I am a fan of series reads, because I absolutely love the continuity of the storyline. With the Sweetwater Pack, Jax Stuart has built a wonderful world of shifters that I can not get enough of!
