COURTING OFFLINE kicks off Toby Wises all new paranormal Nanio Online series. An absolutely lovely way to start off a new series, with a new cast of characters that are full of vibrant personalities and stories just begging to be told!
From the blurb:
AITA for thinking the hot guy at the grocery store was following me…
When Maki sees an attractive man at the grocery store, he hypes himself up to talk to him only to have the guy take a selfie with him and disappear. Maki might not be good with social cues but even he knows that was weird. Thankfully, his fellow volleyball members help him get to the bottom of the situation.
Rin is a professional streamer who can tell when a fan wants to talk to him. This time however, he’s a bit off the mark. When Maki crashes his stream, sparks fly. Normally, Rin would rage quit when he’s in an uncomfortable situation but this is real life, not a game.
Can someone perpetually online and someone chronically disconnected make this relationship work? Or will reality pull the plug?
Courting Offline is book one in the Nanio Online series. Inside this paranormal world you’ll find a meet ugly between a streamer and a professional volleyball player. There’s laugh out loud moments, learning volleyball terms, found family, a teasing Chat, a telekinetic witch, an undine fae, online streams, first times, shwoopy moments, unique soulmate rituals, jersey smut, and of course, a Toby Approved Happily Ever After!
Molly Otto's review:
This book kicks off Toby Wises all new paranormal series of a bunch of online personalities finding their mates. Blue (Rin) & Maki do not exactly have a great meet cute when signals cross in the weirdest way possible, but that comes to head when Maki finds out who Blue is and clears the air. These two have the most adorable courtship possible in both men learning about each other's interests while supporting each other and helping out in their online/real life personalities. Love that this is a Toby version of a sports romance where you feel Makis love of volleyball and how much his team means to him and how big of a part of his life being a professional athlete means without making it all about that and only that. Blue & Maki learn how to keep these two worlds separate and yet integrated them in ways that will benefit both entire groups. Both men have amazing found families that have ties that keep bringing the group together stronger with each bond. What a way to kick off a series! I cannot wait to see the next pairings and all the joy Toby brings to this new world.
Angel's review:
This book was so cute and SO much fun to read! I absolutely loved how Toby wrote such detailed depictions of Blue and his friends during his streams, and what all went into setting one up and engaging in one. The same could be said about the great depictions of Maki and his team playing volleyball, I never knew so much went into that sport before reading this, it was really interesting to learn about!
Blue and Maki are so good together, they might've had a bit of a rough start but once they were able to clear things up they were bound for success! I enjoyed the opposites attract component that was going on and I loved the uniqueness of all the paranormal beings that are apart of this new series. Something else I really loved was the mention of a certain candy shop run by demons... I love finding Easter Eggs like that and Toby did such a good job at giving his other series a mention!
The side characters were fantastic as well, they really made this book was it was. Without them I don't think Maki and Blue, (aka Rin,) would've ever got together. They all played important roles and I'm so excited to see more and learn more about all of them!! The dialogue might've been my favorite part of this book, it was just for fun to read! The teasing jokes, the playful flirting in chat, the banter between friends and teammates, the embarrassing moments when something unexpected happens, I just really enjoyed all of it!
