Performance: New to me narrator Jamal Roque is fantastic! He sounds so throaty and gruff. He makes every character sound so different and somehow just what I imagined. Blake is serious, Kade is sweet sounding, and Kota is so growly. The audiobook is definitely worth a listen!!
Story: The story starts with Kade experiencing a little bit of physical difficulty with his work. Then his boss Dakota needs him to make a special delivery run on pack lands. This causes Kade extreme anxiety and causes him to take some magic that he hopes will protect him. What does he protection from or from whom? This is the step that starts the entire story! The book just kept moving and moving and the pieces kept jiggling back and forth. I couldn’t wait to listen everyday. The series is so good and listening to it in audio is a treat!

I enjoyed meeting Kade and Blake. The two men are each dealing with painful pasts and when their lives connect there is no stopping the connection that they have. Yet their pasts refuse to stay that way and the two must find a way to stay safe as they find their own way. It was nice to see Blake and Kade figure things out with the help of their friends and families. Their story has a nice mix of action and emotions. The characters are strong and each one has their own story that pulls you in and has you wanting to hear more from them. Narrator Jamal Roque brings this book to life and I was quickly immersed in the story.
