The Krampus's First Christmas Gift has an unexpected mate bond that has to be chosen or broken. What happened to Jasper that snowy day when he fell? Who was the mysterious being he saw when he woke up? And why does he feel drawn to the forest? All of these questions finally get answered in this story!
From the blurb:
A lonely and touch-starved monster. A human dealing with a mysterious illness. A bond that changes everything.
Since the day Jasper nearly died in the forest, a strange sickness has consumed his life. More than that, an ache inside him urges him to find something. Or someone. With his fox familiar, he searches without knowing what or who he’s searching for. Only that he must find them, or the ache inside will never be fulfilled. Sometimes, he feels the weight of unseen eyes on him. But when he turns, no one is there.
Kraghol is not like other krampuses. He despises the fear his kind is meant to inspire. When Kraghol saved Jasper’s life, a bond forged between them. But since that day, Kraghol has hidden from Jasper, watching him from the shadows, unable to bear the thought of Jasper seeing his monstrous face.
Then one day, Jasper collapses in the snow. Unable to stop himself, Kraghol rushes to his aid. And when Jasper awakens, he knows that Kraghol is the one he’s been searching for.
But their worlds could not be more different. Kraghol knows a human and a krampus have no future. Can Jasper help him overcome his doubts? Or will Kraghol condemn them both to a lifetime of loneliness?
The Krampus’s First Christmas Gift is an MM cosy fantasy romance with plenty of spice. It features Christmas vibes, a family of hearth and kitchen witch bakers, a touch-starved krampus, a fox familiar, a very long tongue being used inappropriately, and an HEA. Whilst this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Molly Otto's review:
It is now finally time to see what is going on with Jasper! I have been jonsing for this since the beginning of this part of the series of the three books happening in the same ish timeline. Kraghol, a Krampus, saved Jasper in the woods months back and ever since there is something incomplete for both of them. Jasper cannot stop returning to the forest to search for that missing piece, lying to his family wasn't his favorite but needs must be complete again. Kraghol has a hard time accepting Jasper likes him for him, and not just because he saved the witch. The heat of this book is a step up from the previous books but still feels true to the story and the dynamics of this particular pairing. The sweetness of Jasper showing Kraghol humans Christmas traditions and how well they work for him and shows the possibility of a beautiful future together. So happy to see all the brothers get their mates and just goes to show each pairing may be unique but fits just right into this chaos filled family. What a perfect way to end this section of the series, was fun to see the others brothers stories from Jaspers POV and how each of their happiness truly helps the others find comfort among their mates.
SNik's review:
Sixth in series (MM Monster Christmas), but can be read as a standalone. Paranormal. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Dual POV.
Kraghol saves a beautiful human from drowning not realizing that Jasper will continually seek out Kraghol in the forest. Jasper is so attracted and happy with Kraghol once they meet, but he’s not sure if the krampus feels the same way.
Gosh the yearning in this! Kraghol cannot see a way forward for him to be with Jasper, but he will take any time he can spend with Jasper before they have to part. Really a sweet set of characters that are likable and deserving of finding that special person for themself. A nice ending to the set of stories from this season’s MM Monster Christmas, continuing the steam and found family themes. I appreciated that Jasper never wanted to give up on Kraghol, and that Kraghol is so devastatingly happy with Jasper in his life.
Angel's review:
I have been eagerly waiting for Jasper and Kraghol's story, I've been so curious about them both ever since Jasper's illness was mentioned. This is one of my favorite series by Gigi, the stories are full of delightful found family moments and feel good holiday goodness. I love how there are real world things that are discussed within the story while still keeping it in a fantasy/paranormal world.
Jasper and Kraghol's romance has an unusual start that's followed by a delightful slow burn. I appreciate Jasper's tenacity in not giving up when Kraghol tried to shoo him away. Plus, I loved seeing Jasper share human traditions with his Krampus, and show Kraghol that not everyone sees him as a monster.
I have to say I strongly disliked Kraghol's family, they are so cruel and rude, and while his sister did end up giving Kraghol good advice on the end, I still don't love her character. No wonder Kraghol is so afraid of others outside his forest!
Overall, an absolutely lovely story! I think it was fun to read about a Krampus as a main character, I haven't come across too many Krampus books before so I liked that Gigi kept with her unique characters with this book as well.
