ILY (Deaf Hearts Book 2) by Cora Rose & E.M. Lindsey

A love connection while illegally buying TNT? Maybe Thorne shouldn't go along with the man plotting this person Michael's murder, but Leaf is so cute and genuinely frazzled, Thorne has to find out if his attraction is a mistake or the best thing that's ever happened to him.

From the blurb:

Whoever convinced me that quitting my job as an interpreter to take over my dead aunt’s farm should be covered in honey and left for the ants.

Oh wait…that was me.

I was burnt out and ready for a change, but I didn’t expect what came with it.

An orchard full of fruit I’m allergic to.
A bunch of farm equipment I don’t know how to use.
And a vindictive, vicious groundhog who has made it his life’s mission to drive me to the brink of madness.

But in my quest to find a permanent solution for Michael, I’ve also acquired something else I didn’t expect: a stalker.

I should be more concerned that the man offering to sell me TNT has followed me home, but Thorne is the most gorgeous thing I have ever laid eyes on, and we communicate well.

With our hands in ASL, yeah, but also with our lips, tongues, hips…and other parts of the body.

It’s also increasingly obvious that Thorne is much more than a stalker. With my focus on trying to stop Michael from using his little paws to dig my grave, though, it’s hard to worry about his secrets.

But skeletons never stay buried for long, and when everything comes to light, I can’t help but wonder if Thorne is the best thing that will ever happen to me, or the worst.

ILY is the second book in the Deaf Hearts series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It’s a spicy, MM, strangers to lovers rom-com featuring a burnt out, not-quite farmer, a tall, dark, and handsome man with a mission and a secret, a groundhog that knows more than everyone else, and a toe-curling, feet-kicking happily ever after.

SNik's review:

Second in series (Deaf Hearts), but can be read as a standalone. Hidden identity. Found family. Dual POV.

Leaf has inherited an old house with an orchard full of fruit he’s allergic to and a groundhog determined to ruin all of Leaf’s gardening hard work. When Leaf meets Thorne in order to buy something slightly illegal to get rid of his pest, he has no idea that Thorne is actually an FBI agent.

This is a meet crazy, with Thorne suspecting Leaf of attempted murder and Leaf lusting after the man throwing all kinds of red flags like stalking and snooping in Leaf’s house. I could totally empathize with Leaf’s overwhelmed life and fixation on Michael the annoying groundhog, and the fact that Thorne gets drawn to Leaf in attempts to comfort and help is just sweet and funny. Every time I read a book from this series I wish I knew sign language, deaf culture is well represented and we get a peek at hardships as well as strong community ties. Leaf is so chaotic and clumsy, and Thorne is so ready to care and love him, they really have a topsy-turvy connection that works for them and brought a smile to my face.

Angel's review:

Ever since Leaf and Michael got introduced in Kiss-Fist I've been looking forward to their book. And oh my gosh it was well worth the wait!

This book is packed full of humor, quirkiness, a murder mystery, found family, slight stalk1ng, (quite literally) buried secrets, and of course, love. Thorne is the perfect partner for Leaf, he's steady enough that leaf can lean on him when he partakes in a few too many gummies, but he's alao as chaotic and wild as Leaf is. Exhibit A, a FBI agent st@lk1ng his potential murder suspect.

I absolutely adore these two together! Their banter, the flirting, the awkwardness that comes from Leaf's chaos was just an absolute joy to read about! Even though Michael literally drove Leaf to the brink of insanity, I love him so much. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say that Michael came in handy when it came to helping Thorne solve his mystery...

All in all, I loved this book! The pacing was great, I loved how the mystery element was written and portrayed. Thorne and Leaf's relationship started in an unusual way but that really fits with who Leaf is and how his character is portrayed. I liked being able to see characters from the first book make appearances in this one, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Dex is going to survive Roman.

I also really love Michael, even though he is a little menace.
