Crossroads by Nicole Dykes

Emerson and Jasper couldn't be more opposite. Emerson is a city boy with dreams of traveling the world and Jasper is a hometown boy who only wishes for a farm to work. Such a sweet and swoony story that had me tearing up more than once.

From the blurb:

Emerson

My mom thinks I’m spoiled. So what does she do? She ships me out to a farm in the middle of nowhere.
It’s supposed to teach me some sort of lesson.
It won’t.
The only thing that’ll come from this will be the small town of Kensley meeting its match.
And not just Kensley.
Him.
Jasper thinks he can best me? Well, he has another thing coming. I may look like a spoiled city boy on the outside, but I’ll be the fiercest competition this country boy has ever seen.

Jasper
He’s a spoiled brat. Who does this guy think he is, showing up in my hometown and challenging me in every possible way?
He has no idea who he’s messing with.
None.
I may be a little turned around right now, having lost my girlfriend, but I’ll get her back. And everything in my world will be right again.
Including him.
I’ll send him packing before he knows what’s happened. This city boy doesn’t stand a chance.
We’re at a crossroads now, him and me.
And only one of us will come out as the winner.

SNik's review:

Standalone. City/country. Adversarial to lovers. Small town. Close proximity. Only one bed. Dual POV.

Forced to spend his summer working on his Aunt’s farm in a small town in Kansas, Emerson’s only joy is riling up local farmboy Jasper. Emerson is a spoiled city boy, and Jasper doesn’t need or want his help on the farm, but there’s some kind of spark there even though neither of them have ever been with another guy before.

This story truly tugged at my heartstrings, both Emerson and Jasper having very different but difficult home lives, they take an instant dislike to each other but the simmering attraction underneath soon boils over. I really appreciated that once they decided to be together there was no hesitation, they were so happy and in tune with each other but with an end date looming it was so heartbreaking. Their determination to try and stay together even at their young age was super swoony, and having different dreams for the future while trying to make it work made their eventual HEA so much sweeter.

Heather's Review:

Young romance... bisexual awakening.. opposites attract... forced proximity... rivalry - this book has it all!  The characters are both sweet in their own ways - and are on seemingly opposites paths.   I love Emerson's swagger and Jasper's love for animals.  I also love just how fast and hard they fell for each other.   This book is not only about two young men finding their person, it's also about finding a way forward to build something together when it seems impossible to dream.
