If you're looking for a cute, low-angst, animal filled MM romance, this will be exactly what you're looking for! Arlo get a second chance at a deeply felt love.
From the blurb:
Arlo Wright is coming home.
Three years after leaving the only place he’s ever felt himself, Arlo moves back to Gaynor Beach, California, and this time it's permanent. After a hellish few years of trying to pretend he didn’t leave a piece of his soul behind when he left at the end of that fateful summer, Arlo is choosing to live for himself, and no one else.
Of course, that means the first person he finds himself face to face with when back is the promise of forever he left behind.
Jordan Adams just wants to be kept.
After getting his heart broken twice, Jordan isn't looking for love. He has his job as one of Gaynor Beach’s top dog trainers, and his menagerie to keep him company. His best friends are his cousin and the first person he ever loved, so asking for more seems to be a recipe for disappointment.
Until the one person he'll never forget shows back up, and Jordan is tossed in a tailspin of “what could have been.”
One summer to heal the past.
Jordan and Arlo agree they can't—shouldn’t—be together. Not after both men barely survived the first breakup. What they can do is be friends.
Friends who help each other out when times are tough. Friends who spend days on the beach together. Friends who train Arlo’s excitable puppy together.
Friends who are very much still in love.
Risking a second chance may mean reopening old wounds, but letting go of their happiness—again—could be their undoing. With a little fate, and a lot of animal interruptions, they might find what they've been looking for all along. In each other.
A Furry Thing Called Love is a low-angst, second chance romance set in the Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue series. It contains a menagerie, ace and disability rep, and a romance that feels a lot like real life.
Angel's review:
I'll be honest, I haven't read too many books by Abrianna yet, but I am working through their backlog, and the books I've read so far I've liked. Prime example, this book. I wasn't expecting the cuteness overload, or the playful banter, the Great side characters, the pop ins of characters from my favorite series, or the menagerie of furry, (and feathered) animals - but oh my gosh was it wonderful! Of course there was also a great romance story between Jordan & Arlo unfolding as well, but I loved how important the animals were to this story.
I also want to applaud Abrianna for making Arlo as realistic as they could when it came to writing about Arlo's MS - I thought it was written about in a respectful way and while it might not be everyone's experience with MS, I'm sure some can relate to the experience and journey Arlo has had. Something that surprised me was 'seeing' the folks from Randy's Diner making appearances! Let me tell you, those scenes were probably my favorites out of the whole story I loved them so much! I have a soft spot for that whole series and for every single character within it, so for them to make appearances in this story was such a nice surprise.
The epilogue was such a great way to end the story, I won't spoil it for anyone but what I will say is that Jordan and Arlo expanded their family of animals... (And it was a really fun and lighthearted epilogue!)
SNik's review:
Part of a multi-author series (Friends of Gaynor Beach Animal Rescue), but can be read as a standalone. Second chance. Asexual representation. Disability representation. Side representation. Very slow burn/no burn. Quick read. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
Arlo has returned to Gaynor beach, a place where he felt happy even though it’s where he left behind the person he loved with his whole heart. When Jordan unexpectedly runs into Arlo he doesn’t want to let the man close again, but he can’t help wanting to be there for Arlo even if it's just as friends.
This is a sweet story of two men finding their way back to each other, taking a gradual path to rebuilding something that never really faded even years later. The story focused a lot on Arlo’s health issues, and how close Arlo and Jordan’s friendship becomes as they easily care about each other given their past. I wish there had been flashbacks of their summer romance, but both Arlo and Jordan were likable and had a supportive secondary cast of characters that encouraged them in their lives and relationship. A cute read.
