THE KEY HOLDER is a slow burn former step dad and son forbidden romance. Ford is “one Mazda Miata away from a mid-life crisis.” He’s staying in his ex’s summer cabin and trying to figure out what comes next. He wasn’t expecting his former stepson to walk in on him during a vulnerable moment.
From the blurb:
The summer promised escape. It delivered temptation.
Ford
A summer alone at my ex-wife’s cabin at Pathfinders Lake is just what I needed. A chance to relax, reset, and figure out how to get what I want. Namely, a genuine connection with a man that isn’t just interested in my body.
But in the middle of relaxing (with no clothes), I’m interrupted by the stepson I hadn’t seen in years, and it seems he’s my new cabinmate.
And infuriatingly irresistible.
Dylan
Determined to break free from the comforting cycle of meaningless sex, I took my friend’s advice, locked it up, and headed to the remote wilderness of my childhood. However, my plans for a “celibate summer” come to a screeching halt when the man who sparked my gay awakening is there…and naked.
The more time we spend together, my carefully built resolve begins to crumble and the history of my unspoken longing consumes every thought until all I want to do is shatter every boundary between us.
It seems like he’s ready to take the plunge with me, but is it just my imagination or can we really find a way to unlock a future neither of us dared to dream?
The Key Holder is a forced proximity, age gap MM romance. It is part of the Pathfinders Lake multi-author series that features forbidden romance. Each book can be read as a standalone but is better enjoyed as a series.
Molly Otto's review:
When Ford becomes burnt out from the hook up culture and being wanted only for his body, he takes a break at Pathfinders Lake St, his ex-wife's cabin. Dylan is a self diagnosed sex addict. With the advice of his best friend and mom, he spends the summer at his old cabin at Pathfinders Lake to reset. What neither are expecting is the other man, and an instant camaraderie. Over the summer, their attraction grows until their roof needs to be repaired, and allows these two to see how the other feels.
Overall, it was an intriguing read that held my attention. For a reader who is a huge fan of slow burn with a purpose, parts of this felt unnecessarily dragged out. When the heat did begin, these two had an undeniable chemistry and understanding of the other.
Lori C's review:
Dylan has had a crush on Ford since he was a teenager. He didn’t expect to see him again now that his mother had divorced him. To catch him in a similar scenario as Ford had caught him in?! How is he supposed to spend an ENTIRE summer with Ford ALONE?
This book had it all, sweet moments, vulnerable heart stinging moments, and hot and steamy ones too. I loved the way Finn brought in the Rings Trilogy characters. This story about Ford and Dylan follows the theme of the series. They are taboo and yet not. They spend time together at first in a familial type of relationship and then as a more intimate one. This story is a mixture of steam and intimacy. It is about building something more, something they are both desperate to find. I felt like it had just enough angst/pining to be enjoyable for me. I know that everyone’s angst meter is different, so that isn’t really helpful unless you follow my reviews and know that I cry super easy. I enjoyed reading this book from cover to cover.
Heather's Review:
Ooh - former stepfather yumminess! Forced proximity, slow burn and lots of steamy goodness! For me, the slow burn was a little long but man, the wait was worth it! I love how chastity plays such a large role in the book! If you like your taboo-adjacent stories with pining and angst, steam and intimacy, then this is the book you want to put at the top of your TBR! I love everything I've read from Finn and his stories just keep getting better and better!
