I would've never thought a man who gives out hugs and his time for a living would pair so well with a hit man. Who knew!
From the Hug It Out blurb:
Riordan Darcy has spent the last fourteen years building a name for himself as a notorious assassin. He travels the world taking the lives of some of the worst humanity has to offer, leaving his signature on every victim.
Riordan becomes unhappy and withdrawn from the world after a job goes horribly wrong and he makes the decision to get out of the life he was forced into, so long ago. When his meddling, older sister gives him a birthday gift that’s impossible to refuse, his plans to leave his life of crime take a backseat when he’s forced to protect the life of a veritable stranger.
When professional hugger and TLC provider, Teddy Harris, is offered a month-long companionship contract, he’s hard pressed to turn it down. Cuddler by day and a video game reviewer by night, Teddy’s need to make people feel loved and cared for is what drives him. When he meets Riordan Darcy, professional challenge and personal temptation collide, making it nearly impossible for him to endure a whole month with the gorgeous, enigmatic man without falling head over heels in love.
When a mole is discovered within Riordan’s organization, relationships are compromised, and people’s lives are in danger. Time isn’t on their side, and they discover answers can’t always be found by hugging it out when someone is hell-bent on eliminating each and every one of them. Can Riordan and Teddy survive long enough to fall in love, or will they die trying?
Angel's review:
This book has been on my kindle for quite some time now and I've only just know got to it. I'm honestly shocked I hadn't read this sooner, but better late then never, right? I am a big fan of Davidson King's writing, I just love how she balances dark romance while also keeping it light at the same time. The way she creates characters that you grow attached to is truly a super power. Along with having terrific characters, her stories are always well written with engaging dialogue, a dynamic world, and a great plotline. And that's exactly what this story has as well.
Teddy is a professional hugger, he goes around providing comfort to those that need it. When he gets hired to be a live-in companion by his client's sister he isn't expecting to fall in love with the guarded and stubborn man.
Riordan works for an association that sends him to take out bad guys, the worst of the worst of the world. He can't tell anyone what he really does which leaves him secluded and alone. When he discovers that his sister hired someone to keep him company he isn't impressed, but overtime he opens himself up to Teddy and gets so much more then he ever thought he'd have.
These two give off major enemies to lovers vibes, they clash from the very first moment they meet and it takes quite some time before they warm up to each other. I liked the slow burn that occurred between these two, it had a really nice build up and I liked how their relationship developed. My only complaint would be that I wish there were more moments where they got to know one another better, and could learn all of the little details about one another. But that's a very minor complaint. It was awesome seeing Snow and his husband, and while Riordan's co-workers aren't the most friendly at first, you can tell they have each other's back when they need it.
Overall a terrific story!
