Third in series (Rochester Copperheads), can be read as a standalone but might be better if read in order. Hurt/comfort. Found family. Very slow burn. Heed content warnings.
Ryan works with his father for the Rochester Copperheads hockey team while exploring his gender fluidity and diligently working on his addiction recovery. Playing hockey is all that Gideon has focused on since the death of his younger brother ten years ago, but getting to know Ryan has begun to show him glimpses of light and happiness.
Both Gideon and Ryan are dealing with difficult pasts, but when they are together they really do enable each other to feel stronger and happier. I really appreciated Gideon’s unequivocal support and appreciation of Ryan and how these two fall easily into a committed and supportive relationship. The found family aspects were super sweet to read, and I enjoyed Gideon and Ryan’s honest communication and the fact that there was no hesitation to their falling in love.

I love how the recurring theme throughout this slow burn romance is loving yourself... it's an emotional hurt/comfort read that really explores how the past shapes the future and how having someone in your corner can really make all the difference. I really like how Ryan's genderfluid nature was portrayed and how the team and Ryan's support really help Gideon move to more acceptance of his brother's death. I love the progression from friends to lovers and all the ways their relationship impacts their environment and the environment impacts their relationship!
