I purposefully was drawing out my time reading this because I never wanted it to end. This is so good!!
From the blurb:
Mash Cassidy, smooth-talking werewolf and notorious ladies’ man, has been running from his responsibilities, and his pack, for fifteen years. But with Harvest Fest only weeks away, Alpha’s ordering him to return home, and she won’t take no for an answer. It’s time for him to grow up and mate with a nice werewolf girl. In fact, Alpha already has one in mind.
But Mash wasn’t built for settling down, and in a desperate move to keep Alpha off his back, he drags his wolf shifter best friend Cian into another of his harebrained schemes: pretend to be a werewolf and pose as his fake-mate for two whole months.
What could go wrong? They’re just friends, and Mash definitely hasn’t been developing unusual feelings for him…
Cian Barker, hipster wolf shifter and tech whiz, has been in love with his best friend since the day they met at uni. It doesn’t matter that Mash is straight and completely unobtainable, Cian is just happy to have him in his life.
But when Mash asks him to be his fake-mate during the family’s Harvest Fest celebration, Cian might have reached his limits with how far he’ll go for Mash. At least until he’s faced with his favourite pair of puppy-dog eyes. The ones he just can’t seem to resist.
It’ll be fine. Cian can pretend—he’s been pretending for their entire friendship. Besides, it’s not like Mash will ever love him back…
The Good Boys Club is an MM best-friends-to-lovers paranormal romance and the second in the Mythical Mishaps series of interconnected standalones. Expect the usual silliness, slow burn, lots of pining, plenty of scent marking, and a tonne of praise for the bestest boy in the Eight and a Half Kingdoms.
Angel's review:
Jemma is a new-to-me author and now that I've been introduced to their writing I'm definitely going to be reading more of their work. While this is technically book 2 in this series, it can be read as a standalone, (I know because that's how I read this.)
Now, I wanna start by saying I usually stay away from books that mention watersports. I know some people enjoy that and that's great for them, but I've never been interested much in that. When I saw that watersports was going to be part of this story I almost didn't read it but the blurb just sounded way too good to pass up. I'm very happy I gave this a chance, I didn't want to stop reading. I'm obsessed with Mash and Cian!
Firstly I'll talk about the watersports scenes, they somehow fit in this story. The way they were written made sense to the world that Jemma created, and considering Mash's werewolf traditions, they just added an extra dynamic to Mash and Cian's dynamic.
Jemma's writing immediately pulled me in and immersed me into this beautiful and well thought out world she created. The characters have vibrant personalities, intriguing and comedic dialogue, and they have fantastic chemistry with one another. Once Mash and Cian go to Mash's packlands, there are so many different characters that ger introduced. And each and every one played their part and had a reason to be there, they all contributed to moving the storyline along, as well as providing more of a dynamic relationship between Mash and Cian.
I absolutely adore the relationship those two men have with each other, they aren't afraid to be themselves around each other. They are open, accepting, and honest. Well, mostly anyway. There were times where I wanted to reach into the book and tell these men to just talk to each other about their feelings. I will say that their relationship is a wickedly good slow-burn. At times I just wanted them to tell each other how they felt already but there was a reason why they didn't earlier on, and I liked that they didn't get together right away.
Often times when there are so many switches between past and present the story and POV's can get distorted and confusing. That didn't happen here, Jemma made sure to note if the chapter was in the past or if it was in the present, along with it saying who's POV it was. Things were clear and concise and I really appreciated that level of detail.
I honestly could go on and on about this book and these characters. I loved when Mash and Cian finally poured their hearts out to each other, that moment was so sweet and it was so fitting since Mash loves rom-coms so much. He was able to get his own romantic and swoony moment. Mash's family members were terrific additions to this case of characters, the scenes they were in often had me laughing out loud and smiling from ear to ear. I adored them too. The mpreg was a surprise but a really pleasant one! I love how unique and creative this book and these characters are, I'll be rereading this soon for sure! Jemma, you've gotten yourself a new fan!
Bangers and Mash got their happily ever after!
