The Collector by Amanda Meuwissen

A short story full of mysteries, magic, and a lesson about never trusting a demon.

From The Collector blurb:

Even a Collector of souls has to watch his back when murder beats him to his work.

Adam, the Devil's personal bounty hunter for collecting on sold souls, begins to encounter murder victims near his targets.

He must seek help from human contacts and other Collectors to solve the mystery before the killer starts to hunt him.

Angel's review:

I'll preface this by saying this is not an MM romance book, so if that's what you're looking for, you won't find that here. There is a character (Jeb) that there are subtleties that may hint at him and Adam being in a relationship of sorts. But that isn't the main focus, nor is that ever talked about or confirmed. Just a bit of speculation.

Adam is one of the Collectors of souls, he's the devil's right hand man. He gets sent to find the people whose time has run out after selling their souls to his boss, and collecting on the devil's deal by taking their souls. He's been doing that job for over a hundred years, but now there are bodies being left at the places where the souls he has to collect from are. What's more worrying are the notes that keep taunting him... Will he figure it out and stop the killer? Or will it be too late?

This book was interesting, definitely stands in its own lane. It has quite a bit of suspense, a mystery that needs to be solved, some action scenes, and tons of amazing details. The concept of this book was unique and I liked that Amanda wasn't afraid of writing something that isn't MM romance, she wrote this because she wanted to for herself and I think that's awesome! I quite enjoyed reading this short story about Adam, the writing was great. Overtime we get to learn more about Adam's character and how he came to be 'working' for the Devil. I liked the mystery surrounding the bodies that kept piling up, and the person who ended up being behind it was a shocker! Not because I didn't guess who it was... But because of who they were while they were part of the human world.

Overall a really great short story!
