Cowboys Can't Kiss (Kissing Ridge Cowboys Book 1) by RM Neill

Riley is a romance planner that has sworn off cowboys, not expecting that the swoony rodeo star Jackson will slowly chip away at his walls and make him believe in romance all over again. A sweet meet cute, awkward and interesting facts and all the little things that can melt your heart.

From the Cowboys Can't Kiss blurb:

Riley Benton

Cowboys break hearts. It’s a known fact.

But my career as a romance planner has me moving back to my hometown of Kissing Ridge---a town so full of cowboys you can’t enter a room without bumping into a Stetson. And I don’t date cowboys. Not that it matters. I build romance for others… not myself.

There’s no way I’m falling for a steer wrestler with a sinful smile and awkward rambles.

I’ve already had one cowboy break my heart. I don’t intend to make it two.

Jackson Sutherland

Riley Benton is all my daydreams brought to life.

And despite that fact, he doesn’t make me self-conscious when my mouth runs away with me and I blurt out random things. I’m pretty sure he thinks I’m cute, too.

We have a connection, and if he’d just let himself accept it and move past the friend zone, we could be beautiful together. But he’s more stubborn than a steer who hates the wash rack.

I’m used to working hard for what I want, but how do I convince him to risk his heart and kiss another cowboy?

Cowboys Can’t Kiss is book one in the Kissing Ridge Cowboy series. It features a hopelessly romantic, but awkward cowboy and a guarded former escort turned romance planner who thinks the friend zone will keep his heart safe. A friends to lovers story with a unique first “date” and all the found family you wish you had can be found in Kissing Ridge. Pass the hummus and remember to look up when the stars are out.

SNik's review:

First in series (Kissing Ridge). Friends to lovers. Slow burn. Dual POV.

A random meeting in the park makes both Jackson and Riley think maybe there can be something, but Jackson is a rodeo cowboy and Riley has sworn off love, especially with anyone wearing a cowboy hat. Agreeing to be friends, Jackson quietly hopes for more with Riley, sharing random facts with the man that secretly makes his heart swoon.

This story really brings out that a true romance is made up of the little everyday things, and Jackson is beyond swoony with his thoughtfulness towards Riley, really showing the romance planner all sorts of romance. And Riley soon appreciates everything about Jackson, even his being a cowboy, and the honest communication between them is special. Such a sweet read, and a great start to a new series, looking forward to seeing more of the Kissing Ridge cowboys.

Rogue's review:

- new series
- low/no angst

This is the first in a new series, but it's set in the same world as the previous series, with a couple of nice Easter Eggs if you've read that series. It can easily be read as a standalone though. This is just the sweetest story, Riley and Jackson just belong together. I loved their first meeting and I was glad that it wasn't dragged out too long before they met face to face for real (you will get that when you read it!). Riley is running from cowboys after his jerk of an ex, and Jackson is the perfect cowboy antidote who breaks down all the walls Riley has built, one by one and it's a joy to read. I'd like to think there are people as good and patient as Jackson in the world.

My only drawbacks were I felt we didn't really get to know Jackson too well outside of the story, and I also felt Riley's drama with Chase was relegated to nothing when it was a lot, honestly.

I did really enjoy this though, it's a great low angst read and I'm definitely keen for more in this series, I need to see Hunter get his HEA, dammit.

Reed Kaye's review:

This story is one I was sorry to get to The End. The characters are so lovable I just wanted to keep them.

Riley has had his heart broken and doesn’t want to take chances on having it happen again. He is stubborn in the belief that being alone will protect his heart. He decided to move to the town where his aunt lives and started a romance business. He is extremely successful but at times longs for some of that romance.

Jackson is a true cowboy and has a successful career on the rodeo circuit. The only problem is Jackson is lonely and doesn't fit the stereotype partying cowboy.

Then these two meet and there is an instant attraction. I love the path they take to become friends and how Jackson won’t give up on more with Riley.

The secondary characters added so much to the story. I can’t wait for the next in the series.

GreenwingReads review:

Jackson is a golden retriever in a Stetson. He's so sweet and cute, he is exactly what Riley needed to get over his disdain for cowboys.

Riley was betrayed horribly by a cowboy wannabe and now he's turned off by all cowboys. So despite his initial interest in Jackson, once he learns that Jackson is a rodeo cowboy, Riley puts him in the friend zone. Or he tries to at least, but even Riley can't deny the connection blooming between them.

The story is low angst, strangers to friends to lovers. Riley and Jackson are both well suited for each other and so supportive and accepting of one another. Their story is a refreshing romance, like a glass of lemonade on a summer day.

I highly recommend this story. The side characters are also intriguing and I hope we see more of them.

Heather's review:

RM Neill can write swoony cowboys, she can also make sure that stereotypes get turned on their heads... I love how the author and the universe kept putting these two men in each other's paths and how they built friendship and understanding while still fanning romantic flames...

I love that this book kicks off a new series, because we not only have swoon-worthy main characters but we also meet some kick-ass secondary characters who deserve to find love too.  It doesn't hurt that there's a harken back to another series with a little bit of smexy lingerie either...
