Picking up soon after book 1 ended, Miguel and Raven are fully committed to each other as their new company Trackers is hired to recover a missing jewel. An unexplained appearance of someone Miguel thought was dead and more intrigue lead Miguel and Raven to ask for help, and their found family jump with them into the action.
From the Renegade blurb:
Though Raven Mathis and Miguel Huerta have recently opened their new recovery business, doing things they used to do on their own, things haven’t been going so well. But some things have gone right. They’ve settled down in Nana’s house and are deeply in love. And they’re getting accustomed to working as partners, but business is slow. But when they get a call asking if they can help recover a valuable pigeon’s blood ruby, they jump at the chance, even though they’re advised to carry guns.
When the man Miguel left for dead in the desert long ago unexpectedly shows up at their first meeting with their new client, the request that they come armed, suddenly becomes a harsh reality. Miguel is in total disbelief as he’s abruptly faced with a ghost who might be out for blood. And when a dark stranger starts making threats, things start spiraling out of control. Miguel hates the fact that Raven is in terrible danger, and how is his former lover involved?
Figuring out how to navigate Miguel’s past may prove harder to overcome than they realize. It’s a lot to ask of Raven. Will their love for each other be enough? The rush to figure out why operatives are targeting them becomes a necessity, and though Miguel hates it, he realizes he may just have to rely on a few new colleagues to help.
He knows one thing, though…killing the man he’d once been in love with, might be the only way to save Raven.
SNik's review:
Second in series (Trackers), best of read in order. Established relationship. POC representation. Found family. Dual POV. Heed content warnings.
It's been only a couple of months since the end of the previous book and Miguel and Raven are struggling to get their new joint business off the ground when they are hired for yet another jewelry recovery. However, right from the beginning there are more questions than answers and a ghost from the past surprises Miguel and throws the investigation into a new direction.
This was an entertaining furtherance of Miguel and Raven relationship, an interesting investigation, and a peek into more of Miguel’s military past. I really appreciated that there were no cracks in Miguel and Raven’s relationship, even when they both felt self-doubt at times they never doubted their partner, and the steam was as spicy as ever. As always the supportive group of found family (be ready for an abundance of cameos for those who are fans of this author) really strengthens the main characters lives, but every little bit of time on page with Miguel and Raven has romance whether working or living together they always focus on each other. Can’t wait for more for this couple and series.
