Ryan and Josh are one of my favorite author duos. The love and romance of their stories are so poignant and feel incredibly real. This story was no different. The relationship features an age gap (10 years), forced proximity (teammates and neighbors) and plenty of angst. Returning to Buffalo, the second book features the Warriors goalie and the defenseman who has recently been traded to the team, who also lives next door in Net Bet.
From the blurb:
Gabe
I’ve spent years as the Warriors’ goalie, holding the line under pressure. But off the ice, my life’s a disaster. After dating too many men who only saw me as an NHL trophy, I’ve sworn off romance—until Brody skates into my life. He’s newly traded to the team, ten years younger, and carrying the weight of the world.
I should keep my distance, but every stolen glance, every unguarded smile pulls me in. A playful bet pushes me to take a chance with Brody, though I’m risking more than my heart.
Brody
Being traded to Buffalo was supposed to be my fresh start, an escape after my old team turned on me. Now, I have one goal: keep my head down so I can play hockey.
Enter Gabe: confident, relentless, and far too good at breaking through my walls. I can’t let myself want him. But when he’s around, I forget every reason I should walk away.
One spark turns into something neither of us can ignore. But will falling for each other be the ultimate win—or the one loss we can’t afford?
Net Bet is the second standalone in the fantastic Buffalo Warriors Hockey series. It features a bisexual defenseman with a traumatic past, a lonely goalie looking for love, and found family in the form of a nosy yet supportive hockey team. Packed with high heat, dirty talk, first times, forced proximity, angst, an age gap, and a hard-earned HEA, this story delivers all the feels.

Brody has been through some very hard times and is looking for a fresh start. My heart ached for him (read the triggers).
Gabe has had it with relationships and prefers short flings. But Brody has him second guessing his stance on that. They both want each other, but Gabe is out and proud, while Brody is not. Poor Brody has plenty of hangups and fears from his past and isn't sure about a public relationship, but Gabe shows him it's okay to trust and be himself.
The banter is witty, the spicy is extra spicy, and the angst is heart wrenching but worth it. I highly recommend this one!
Heather's Review:
There's a lot to unpack in this story. Gabe is sweet and determined, Brody is scarred and scared, but the chemistry is palpable between them. This book, more than many others from this duo is angsty, a slower building story that becomes explosively steamy. The characters have dimension and depth beyond the ice and the team dynamics are interesting too. I like the positive messaging from the team and the locker room and the way the characters are built up, rather than put down.
I'm enjoying this latest series from Taylor and Harwood and can't wait to see where the Buffalo Warriors series goes next.
Net Bet is currently available as an audiobook, e-book and paperback, and can be read as part of your Kindle Unlimited Subscription
