I'm Not Your Pet (Extra! Extraterrestrial) by Fae Quin

Fae Quin comes to us with her first alien romance with
I’m Not Your Pet! You can expect a giant pink squishy shark alien savior and the sweet, ginger human abductee he falls for!

From the blurb:

With the way things are going, alien abduction doesn’t sound all that terrible.

Hugo
I’m not saying I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the three years I’ve spent in captivity on a pleasure planet, shaking my money-maker for intergalactic patrons… but, I mean, it hasn’t been all bad. The jelly donuts were a perk. And granted, I didn’t really know what I was signing up for when I agreed to be purchased by the sexy pink shark-man, but things seem to be looking up. Even though we don’t speak each other’s languages, he seems pretty nice—if his sharp-toothed smiles and gentle touches are anything to go by. If only I could get my hands on a translator device so I could ask him what exactly his intentions are. I truly hope I’m not just a pet!

Roark
The moment I set eyes on my fluffy-haired, spotted, little huu-man, sitting so sad in his glass prison, I knew I needed to free him, to make him mine. To rid him of this godawful planet and show him a life outside of gilded cages. But as captain of a space voyager, my missions are dangerous and it will be difficult to keep my small mate safe. He’s so full of life and excitement and curiosity, but he’s also fragile and soft. He must be protected at all costs. And no matter how badly my hearts ache to claim him, I worry if maybe a life with me would just be a different sort of prison.

While these stories can act as standalones, it is best to read each authors' books in the order of their publication due to world-building.

I’m Not Your Pet! is a standalone sci-fi alien MM romance with high heat, a HEA, and no cliffhangers. Includes a blossoming romance between a pink alien named Roark and the clever human he rescues. This was the sweetest freaking flufftastic couple. I adored them together. Roark was exactly the kind of man that sweet Hugo deserved after everything he'd been through. From first being abducted by aliens when he was just about to begin his life at Harvard, to being sold to a pleasure house on a slave planet. As you can probably guess, Hugo hasn't had the easiest of times since his abduction years prior. While he wasn't forced to engage in intimate acts with patrons, he did have to provide entertainment ala exotic dancing which wasn't exactly something Hugo came to the planet with knowledge of. And though Hugo somehow kept his bright, sweet personality intact, he was always living with the fear that things could change on a dime for a life of a slave.

Roark was so lovely, yet clueless when it came to courting. I just loved how much he doted on Hugo, even if the way he did it at the start was unconventional to say the least. He was a good man, um shark, and he treated his ship's crew with respect and honor. Once he obtained Hugo, he treated him even better. That isn't to say Hugo wasn't good to Roark too. They took care of each other in their own ways. Roark would try and spoil Hugo, while Hugo forced Roark to not work so much. To have a life outside of his duty. Even their communication issues didn't dampen this aspect of their relationship.

"π™·πš˜πš™πšŽ 𝚠𝚊𝚜 πšπšŽπš–πšžπš•πš˜πšžπšœ, πš πšŽπšŠπš” πšπš‘πš’πš—πš. π™±πšžπš πš’πš 𝚠𝚊𝚜 πšœπšπš’πš•πš• πš‘πš˜πš™πšŽ. π™°πš—πš πšπš‘πšŠπš πš πšŠπšœπš—'𝚝 πšœπš˜πš–πšŽπšπš‘πš’πš—πš 𝙸'𝚍 πš‘πšŠπš πšπš˜πš› 𝚊 πš•πš˜πš—πš, πš•πš˜πš—πš πšπš’πš–πšŽ."

My favorite scenes were when Roark would walk around with Hugo up on his shoulders. I thought it was the cutest thing. Any angst in this story was from outside sources, never the relationship. Yes, there were some miscommunications along the way, but those were settled without any craziness. I also snickered a lot at the planet names. Some took me a bit longer to figure out, but eventually I got the joke :). The author must have had fun coming up with those! This book was sweet and I enjoyed it just as much as the first book in the series by a different author. I hope these two won't be the only books written in this universe!
