A fake relationship in a holiday filled small town is just what is needed for Rocco and Taylor. When everything doesn't feel very fake though is where these two men really shine together.
From the Flake It Til You Make It blurb:
It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas . . .
When Rocco Moretti gets the chance to buy a coffee shop in a small Illinois town, it feels like a miracle. And in true Christmas Falls tradition, Jolly Java is a holiday-flavored one.
He sets up shop and starts experimenting with recipes. The only problem? His changes go over like a piece of coal on Christmas morning. Instead of serving up cups of holiday cheer, he's getting a solid "bah humbug" vibe from the town.
He needs another miracle, stat.
Enter Deputy Mayor Taylor Hall.
With the town’s city manager retiring, Taylor is looking to make a leadership move, but his dream is melting because the city council still sees him as an outsider. He needs to prove he's in Christmas Falls to stay, and what better way than by getting a boyfriend?
Even a fake one.
Rocco needs the town's acceptance, so why not date the deputy mayor? Faking it till they make it will be a means to an end. That's all.
But sharing the holiday season wins over more than the town's hearts. With each date, each mistletoe kiss, and every steamy night in front of the fire, it wins over theirs as well.
Come Christmas morning, there's really only one miracle Rocco wants under his tree.
For the love they've been faking to become real.
Christmas Falls: Season 2 revisits a small town that thrives on enough holiday charm to rival any Hallmark movie. It's a multi-author M/M romance series.
SNik's review:
Part of a multi-author series (Christmas Falls: Season 2), but can be read as a standalone. Fake relationship. Small town. Slow burn. Dual POV.
Taking over a local coffee shop in Christmas Falls is Rocco’s dream, but he starts off on the wrong foot and now has to do damage control, and who better to help him than the gorgeous deputy mayor that needs some positive PR of his own. Taylor admits his attraction to Rocco may cause problems for their pretend dating, but he keeps telling Rocco and himself that it’s all fake even while he is slowly falling.
I never get tired of the fake dating trope and this one sprinkled with the holiday festivities and two really sweet and likable characters certainly did not disappoint. Some fun cameos, some great secondary characters around town, some spicy times, and some lovely romance and communication between Rocco and Taylor. A great addition to this series and the author’s Moretti family romances.
Angel's review:
I absolutely adore Christmas Falls and this story was yet another fantastic addition to this series. Taylor is determined to get the promotion he's been wanting for years, but the town doesn't see him as qualified because he's not 'settled down.' Rocco lost the citizens of Christmas Falls's support after changing too many things on his menu too fast. Both of them need help getting the town's support, and what better way to do that then fake dating.
The thing is though... It didn't stay fake for long, even though these two men fought against their feelings. I thought this was a great romance story full of holiday cheer, and a wonderful small town community. I liked the chemistry Rocco and Taylor had with each other, before they had agreed on fake dating there was a connection between these two. And once they did start fake dating and getting to know one another better, that connection and chemistry grew exponentially.
I loved that the passion and dreams that both Rocco and Taylor have was so pronounced in the story. I liked that there were multiple scenes of Rocco making coffee, and baking his scones and pastries, and how there was multiple scenes of Taylor trying to win the town over. I thought both of their professions was written well and in a very believable way.
Seeing the Morretti clan make an appearance made me smile, it was so nice to 'see' them again. The fake dating trope was featured in this story as well as found family, and small town shenanigans. And this isn't a trope but goat cheese also played an important role too.
Heather's Review:
Being new in town is tough for Rocco, who is struggling to connect with the town and losing business at his coffee shop... and needs help from Taylor, the deputy mayor everyone is trying to set up... Concocting a fake relationship that quickly escalates to a real one... inevitable or just wishful thinking?
This book was fun, the fake-dating trope taking away a lot of those first few dates angst and letting them settle into a new relationship and real feelings without having to second guess themselves too much. Combine that with the magic of Christmas Falls and you get a low angst, fast paced sweetfest with just the right amount of steam!
I love when series cross over and Christmas Falls brings the entire Moretti Family back together for the holidays and gives us big family holiday feels within the book. We also get other fun cameos and continued worldbuilding for the series, which adds to the holiday feeling of the read.
Whether you've read the author's prior books or not, you'll fall in love with the town and the Morettis when you read this book.
